I would strongly recommend getting all of Chomsky's lectures on CD from AK press. I'll be the first to admit that there's a lot of simplistic rhetoric and general idiocy on the American Left (such as it is) but Chomsky is the antidode for that. You cannot seriously discuss American history, politics, or foreign affairs without coming to terms with Chomsky. The man is the modern Socrates; the soft-spoken gadfly that the State has tried to silence.
