Learn easy country guitar rhythm patterns, walk-ups, and songs — perfect for mature beginners starting from scratch.

    What you'll learn

    • Play authentic country-style rhythm guitar using the pick–strum and alternate-bass (boom-chick) patterns with confidence and steady timing.
    • Add musical walk-ups and transitions (A→D, G→C, and E→A) to make chord changes sound natural and professional.
    • Perform simple country songs and 12-bar progressions on your own — keeping solid time, clean tone, and that satisfying country groove.
    • Understand how bass notes and chord structures work together to create rhythm and drive in country guitar playing.

    Requirements

A knowledge of the 5 most basic guitar chords (A,C,D,E,G) —apart from that this course starts completely from scratch. You’ll need an acoustic guitar (steel-string preferred) and a pick (plectrum). A tuner (clip-on or app-based) to keep your guitar in tune. A quiet space and 15–20 minutes a day for focused practice. A willingness to take things slowly, follow step-by-step instructions, and enjoy the process. (Optional but helpful) A music stand or device holder for following along with the videos. A small notebook or printed workbook to jot down progress or reflections.

    Description

Country rhythm guitar for beginners - learn pick-strum and alternate-bass (boom-chick) patterns, smooth walk-ups, and simple acoustic songs.

This course teaches you the country pick-strum style step by step, designed especially for mature beginners and returning players who want to play real music without the confusion, speed, or pressure of traditional guitar lessons.

If you have ever felt overwhelmed by online tutorials or frustrated that your guitar does not sound musical, this course is for you. Every lesson is filmed slowly, clearly, and with encouragement - so you can follow along comfortably at your own pace and actually enjoy learning again.

You will begin with just one chord and one simple rhythm pattern, and gradually build up the key skills that make country guitar so distinctive: confident open chords, smooth chord changes, walk-ups and transitions, and a steady, relaxed rhythm using both the pick and bass strings.

Each section adds something new - from basic strumming, to connecting chords with walk-ups, to mastering alternate-bass boom-chick patterns used in real songs. By the end, you will have a natural sense of rhythm, control of your right hand, and a collection of simple country-style songs you can play proudly on your own.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

    • Play all five essential open major chords (D, A, G, E, and C)
    • Use walk-ups to move between chords smoothly and musically
    • Keep time confidently using the pick-strum and alternate-bass rhythm patterns
    • Perform full country-style songs using real techniques that sound authentic
    • Understand how bass notes drive rhythm in country and folk music
    • Develop a relaxed, confident right-hand motion and strong sense of timing

No prior country guitar picking experience required - just your acoustic guitar, a pick, a tuner, 5 basic open major chords, and a few minutes each day to practise. A comfortable chair, positive attitude, and patience will take you further than speed or talent ever could.

    This course is perfect for:

    • Adults aged 50 and over who want to finally learn guitar at a relaxed, achievable pace
    • Mature beginners who want to play simple, recognisable songs without reading music
    • Returning players who want to refresh their skills and gain confidence
    • Anyone who loves country, folk, or acoustic music and wants to master that classic boom-chick rhythm style

If you have ever wanted to pick up your guitar and make it sound like music, this is where it begins. Simple steps, real progress, and genuine encouragement - everything you need to finally play the songs you love.

    Who this course is for:

Adults 50 and over who’ve always wanted to play guitar but don’t know where to start. Mature beginners who may have tried learning before but found other methods too fast, confusing, or discouraging. Returning players dusting off a guitar after years (or decades) away and looking for a gentle, confidence-building restart. Acoustic guitar enthusiasts who love country, folk, or classic songs and want to master that steady boom-chick rhythm style. Anyone who wants a calm, structured, step-by-step approach that explains everything clearly — no jargon, no rush, no overwhelm.
