Schola Hungarica - Magyar Nyelvemlékek (LP / FLAC)

This is an almost forgotten album of Schola Hungarica which is one of my favourites. It was not released on CD, perhaps because partly of the same material appeared on Magyar Gregoriánum 6.
The music is organized around the oldest surviving Hungarian texts. The Funeral Oration ( Halotti beszéd és könyörgés) is in the Pray Codex (XII. century), the specific Hungarian translation of Planctus ante nescia (Ómagyar Mária-siralom) was found in the Leuven Codex (XIII. century). Both are spoken here twice, first in their assumed original form and secondly in a modern Hungarian transcript.
Despite the theme – almost paradoxically – this recording is very much alive. The most unique are the mixed tracks like Circumdederunt me, Ego sum resurrectio, which can hear together with the sounds of a funeral; or during singing the Lamentations of Mary in Latin, the actor Szersén Gyula recites it in Hungarian. Celestial sounds meet here earthly pain in a disturbingly wonderful form.
You can also find here pieces not occuring on other albums (Requiem aeternam, Passio secundum Johannem). The record closes with an archive folk recording, another Lament of Mary.

Bien, he de decir que este conjunto es mi favorito en lo concerniente a cantos gregorianos (creo que lo he dicho antes ¿o no?). Me referiré a algunos aspectos que me han llamado la atención. Combinan cantos y recitaciones en lengua húngara, por otra parte mezclan sonidos de alguna procesión (muy bonito por lo demás), como afirma Sunniva, es algo interesante de escuchar; en este punto siempre pienso en los conjuntos de rock-progresivo, pioneros en la inclusión de sonidos, ruidos silvestres, gente caminando.
Lo que más me causó sorpresa es la última canción (Sunniva se refiere a una pieza del folk húngaro), una canción rústica cantada por una mujer; se siente en esa voz, casi como una queja, la idea de algo muy antiguo y sobrecogedor. Un disco con mucho colorido.
El trabajo visual es muy lindo, todo en un estilo de pergaminos.
Es de los LP que me gustaría tener en forma física.
