Double Platinum is the first compilation album by KISS. Many of the songs on Double Platinum were remixed and significantly differ from their original versions. In the case of it was re-recorded with a slight disco beat and dubbed as "Strutter '78." Other songs had sections completely removed, while the beginning of was repeated at the end, fading out at the start of the first verse and giving the song a "wrap around" feel. Sean Delaney stated that it took eleven days to remix and re-edit the songs. During the early part of the year, work was underway on Casablanca’s option of releasing a greatest hits compilation without the necessary approval of the band. The band had very little to do with the project apart from providing one newly re-recorded track, which they quickly disliked anyway, while more would be done on the sound of the original recordings, some of which were remixed. In February 1978 KISS entered Electric Lady Studios to re-record “Strutter” for the album. The recording of this song was considered to be a big mistake by Sean Delaney (and by Ace who didn’t see any particular reason to re-record the track), who seems to have taken a lot of flack for the song being redone in a so-called “disco” style per Neil Bogart’s request. Yet there are really few changes to the song other than it having an additional solo, making the song sound closer to the 1973 demo version. The production values were even smoother than the original KISS album version. The original vinyl release, in a gatefold-sleeve, had an embossed, silver-foiled sleeve, with the band members in bas-relief inside. The album was packaged with a printed "Platinum Award" thanking the KISS Army for making the band a "Double Platinum Success". Later reissues would be in a single gray colored sleeve but replaced the logo with a printed, red-type version.
