Christiane Karg - Mitologia - Handel: Arias and Duets (2016)

When we look good, the great majority of the first operas in the history of music in the early seventeenth century, took out about the characters of mythology: Dafne, Euridice, Orfeo. And that was just the start of a great tradition, Handel did not fail to continue a century later. This album of virtuoso soprano Christiane Karg and mezzo-soprano Romina Basso looks at many Handelian incursions in mythology, which gave rise to lavish and hyper-virtuoso arias and duets in works - operas but also cantatas - such as Semele, Hercules, he Parnasso in festa, Apollo e Dafne and others, is sung in Italian or English. These are mostly works of the great London maturity, except the cantata Escheggiate 1710 in London certainly written already but in a kind Italianate Handel had brought in luggage after his long stay in Italy. Both singers are accompanied by the Amsterdam ensemble Il Complesso Barocco, accustomed to great work of Handel.
