Davids was vooral bekend als vertolker van volkse liedjes. Maar hij schreef ook revues, was een tijd directeur van het Casino in Rotterdam en het Kurhauscabaret in Scheveningen. Louis schreef voor het volkstoneel van Herman Bouber en trad hij op in films, toneelstukken en operettes.
Louis Davids. Zijn ouders waren kermisgasten, die de kermissen afreisden, om daar op te treden met o.a. komische duetten. De hele falilie Davids zat in het kermisvak. Louis begon zijn carrière als wonderkind op de kermis. Evenals zijn zussen Rika en Heintje en broer Hakkie. Hakkie begeleidde de familie op piano en zou later kapelmeester worden. Davids zou uitgroeien tot de vertolker van de gevoelens van wat ´de kleine man´ werd genoemd. Hoewel Rotterdammer van geboorte, zong hij zeer Amsterdamse liedjes in het Mokumse accent. In deze liedjes werd ingegaan op de typisch Amsterdamse volksaard. Uiteraard werd dit destijds als uiterst plat en banaal ervaren door de betere klasse. Volgens de Grote Winkler Prins werd de banaliteit vaak gecompenseerd door briljante woordvondsten en spelingen.
