A project that combines a jazz with a modern flavor with rarefied and minimal atmospheres that alternate with pressing and decisive grooves. This is Time, the debut album of the guitarist Simone Basile published in November 2018 by the label Emme Record Label. The training is completed by a very experienced rhythm section with Francesco Angiuli on double bass and Marco Valeri on drums. Time is undoubtedly a modern work in which stand out the compositional talent of the leader, always at the service of the band, and a strong interplay between the members of the trio. There is also a strong sense of rhythm and groove that alternate with decidedly more melodic pieces where there is always a good harmony of the band.
The title of the album, emblematic and incisive, is the real key to understanding the project: the concept of time, in fact, and how the latter influences people and places, is at the base of everything and represents the movement inside of a labyrinth that moves between past, present and future. We can talk about time by reading a clock, we need time to do anything and this inevitably leads us to change. The record consists of nine tracks, including seven original tracks and two standards: each of them contains a story, an example of how time has changed something within the artist's life.
The album opens with the title trak Time, a piece that opens and summarizes the project: a 360-degree reflection on the concept of time, based on the influence of the latter on people, things and places. It is no coincidence that in this composition emerges a strong interplay between the members of the band, with a guitar that always remains at the service of the composition. The underlying theme of this piece is once again the passage of time which in this case is represented by harmonic mutations that describe the fast course with which time passes before our eyes. Arnolfo 32 is, instead, a song even8ths with a sweet and rarefied atmosphere that embodies a precise vision of time: the title represents the address of a house and describes new experiences linked to recent friendships and to forge new relationships. with people who become a new family, a new home, a new present at any moment. Dublin is a more dynamic composition, where the guitarist phrasing of Simone Basile moves within a decisive and well-calibrated groove that also leaves space for the inspiration of the trio's musicians. The piece is dedicated to those who use "a part" of their time to travel, to discover new places, far away or near. In this case, time has a double effect: the first is to bind to a new place in which we find ourselves, make it feel familiar, ours, the second instead leads us to nostalgia, wanting to go home, where we started. Return is never a defeat, since time changes places and the way we see what we have around us.
