The Von Drats

Looking like extras on the Addams Family, or a cartoon hot rod gang, no one has seen anything quite like the von Drats! Their live shows are a creepy and kooky display of rowdy surf'n garage tunes, with a sense of unpredictable humour that makes the experience fun for all.

The von Drats are not an urban legend or an old world myth. Rumours of a von Drat estate somewhere in the city of Toronto come up now and then in casual conversation. Regardless of their digs, it's the live show that they take great pleasure in delivering to your town. An introduction to the von Drat family is in order for the uninitiated and a quick preview of what to expect should you encounter them.

The lightning fast long arm of the drums, Leonard von Drat, bids you welcome and keeps everyone in stitches with his rapid fire wit. An uncontrollable wildman, Dave von Drat sets the mood with the spooky sounding Farfisa organ and spastic movements that would even leave old Uncle Fester in shock. The big brother Trevor von Drat quite easily transitions from being a calm and collected surf guitar gentlemen to a garage rock growling life of the party. The werewolf cursed DanO von Drat stares wild eyed and claws some speedy and mind-bending bass blasts. The youngest brother, Gregory von Drat, unleashes a scary surf guitar sound of monstrous proportions.

Bats and haunted houses aside, the von Drats are one of the hardest working bands around. They have played some very special shows, including the 2008 MIAC show as a request by Sparrow Guitars, benefits for the Toronto Roller Derby League, CKLN FM and Toronto Sick Kids, the Toronto Burlesque Festival, the Annual VEN Ball(Vampire Entertainment Network), Mysterions TV pilot episode, the 2008 Toronto Zombie Walk, the Wavelength series (show 438), the Dave and Chuck Show, Explore Music with Alan Cross, and of course the Annual Great Lakes Surf Battle. They have shared the stage with notable acts from across North America and beyond. The von Drats will put on a fifty dollar show each and every time, regardless of the cover charge. In 2009, Sparrow Guitars introduced the "von Drat Continental", a souped up surf guitar that was debuted at the 2009 NAMM show.
