Matia Bazar sono un gruppo musicale italiano di musica pop, leggera e rock, formatosi nel 1975 a Genova. I Matia Bazar nascono dall'unione di Carlo Marrale (chitarra, cori), Piero Cassano (tastiere, cori) e Aldo Stellita (basso), tutti ex-componenti dei Jet, con Giancarlo Golzi (batteria), uscente dal Museo Rosenbach, ed Antonella Ruggiero (voce).
Il nome d'arte della cantante era "Matia", cioè "Matta" in genovese; da qui il nome del gruppo.
Debuttano nel 1975 con il singolo Stasera… che sera!, partecipando alla manifestazione Un disco per l'estate, senza qualificarsi per le serate finali di Saint Vincent. In seguito pubblicano il singolo Per un'ora d'amore con il quale ottengono un buon successo, che si ripete l'anno seguente con il brano Che male fa ed il primo album Matia Bazar 1.
Nel 1977 esordiscono al Festival di Sanremo con il brano Ma perché, cui fa seguito l'album Gran Bazar, che riscuote uno straordinario successo.

Matia Bazar are a group of Italian music of pop, light rock, formed in 1975 in Genoa. Matia Bazar Marrale born from the union of Charles (guitar, vocals), Piero Cassano (keyboards, vocals) and Aldo Stellite (bass), all former members of Jet, with Giancarlo Golzi (drums), leaving the Rosenbach Museum, and Mariah Carey (vocals).
The singer's stage name was "Matia," that is "Crazy" in Genoa, hence the name of the group.
Debut in 1975 with the single Tonight … that evening!, participating in a demonstration disc for the summer, not qualify for the final evenings of Saint Vincent. Then publish the individual for an hour of love with which they get a good success, which is repeated the following year with the song What is wrong and the first album Matia Bazar 1.
In 1977 their debut at the Festival of Sanremo with the song Why, which is followed by the album Grand Bazaar, which received a resounding success.
