Koh-I-Noor Saxophone Quartet - Lucubraciones

The Koh-I-Noor Saxophone Quartet, a Dutch ensemble founded by four freshly graduated conservatory students in 1985,
performs a collection of contemporary Argentine composers here.

A saxophone quartet in modern classical music? I hear you wondering if that wouldn’t be too jazzy.
Well, yes. It’s certainly jazzy. In the same way as Stravinsky’s “Ebony Concerto” is jazzy…and you can be sure the title track of this album, “Lucubraciones” by Mario Cosentino is more than just a little bit reminiscent of this phenomenal - but sadly, way too short - masterpiece by the Russian genius.
Clear, neatly played sounds jocularly jumping to and fro is what you’re going to hear on this record.

I hope the album may be as much of an unsuspected pleasure for you to discover as it was for me.
