Once upon a time, on a very special Christmas Eve, a young girl named Clara received an unusual gift from her adored godfather, Drosselmeyer: a little Nutcracker doll.
Despite its strange, almost ugly, face, Marie instantly fell in love with the toy, and when her jealous younger brother deliberately smashed it to the ground, she was inconsolable.
