Chorale based on a simple Lutheran hymn not only is in the core of Bach's music, but also links Buxtehude with Bartholdy, Reger and Frank. Being lucky enough to have had a grandfather who played chorales with love on church organ, I choose these melodies as a base for my contrapunctal compositions. They are performed on a very fine concert piano and uploaded to support AvaxHome - the best musical community under the Sun. This way I would like to say "Thank you very much!" to WellIThink, Scarabou, Flush, Clasic, Avax, interzone and other members for their splednid uploads and Kirk Meyer for MyOrgan - open source virtual musical instrument.

    A very different recording than well-known Hänssler's from 1993.

I have listened to many recordings of the Johannes Passion and find this one to be the very best. Its fluidity, its warmth, weave in and out of the soul the sorrow, yet the hope that we receive by the substitutional death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the cross. Made me think why this first recording with Peter Schreier(Tenor, Evangelist&Arias), Julia Hamari(Alto) and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau(Bass) is not available and why did Rilling bother to record a second, far more fragmented and colder - almost HIP (historic instruments performance) version. St. John Passion reflects much more the biblical account of events and its drama than its sister St. Matthew Passion. The result is a work, which, not only because of its expressiveness but also consistency of its structure, can be regarded as the finest piece of baroque music.
