According to author Loren Cordain, modern health and diet problems didn't start with the advent of packaged snack food, but much earlier–back at the dawn of the agricultural age many thousands of years ago. As humans became less nomadic and more dependent on high-carbohydrate diets, we left behind the diet we had evolved with, which is based on low-fat proteins and plenty of fruits and vegetables. Sugars, fats, and carbs were rare, if they were present at all, and survival required a steady, if low-key, level of activity.

Research on Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) is a multidisciplinary field located at the intersection of cognitive psychology, computer science, and education. Yet, the different epistemological and theoretical backgrounds of these disciplines often make fruitful exchange between them difficult. CSCL urgently needs to develop and use boundary concepts that can bring these fields closer together to improve cumulative research and development of computer-supported learning environments. Sociologists Aronowitz and DiFazio contend that scientific and technological advances have resulted in "too many workers for too few jobs, and even fewer of them are well paid." The authors proceed to pose questions regarding the effect this "progressive destruction of high-quality, well-paid, permanent jobs" will have on the meaning of work and its relationship to the concept of "self." Inexplicably, they salt this otherwise scholarly and well-researched work with detailed movie plot lines and wordy quotations from disgruntled workers. Replete with such futuristic concepts as cybernetics, technoculture, deskilling, and informatics, this book is as timely as today's headlines announcing the latest round of layoffs and downsizing. The hyperbolic title notwithstanding, this is an important and thought-provoking work that will be of primary interest to economists, sociologists, business leaders, and public policy-makers.

The Book of Urizen is the Genesis and Exodus of Blake's "Bible of Hell" (Marriage of Heaven and Hell 24). It tells of Urizen's fall into solipsism and its consequences for his companions, in particular Los but also others drawn into his vision of the world. The world is created out of this fall. The book ends with Fuzon, a Moses figure, leading his people out of Egypt (Urizen's world). The Book of Ahania continues the story of Fuzon's conflict with Urizen. Urizen's sexual repression and its consequent prudery are further explored. The Book of Los retells the story of the creation of the world from a different point of view, exploring Los's motivation as the demiurge of this world who gives concrete form to Urizen's abstractions.
