Numerical Computing with IEEE Floating Point Arithmetic
    104 pages | SIAM (January 2001) | ISBN: 0898715717 | PDF | 5,8 Mb

Are you familiar with the IEEE floating point arithmetic standard? Would you like to understand it better? This book gives a broad overview of numerical computing, in a historical context, with a special focus on the IEEE standard for binary floating point arithmetic. Key ideas are developed step by step, taking the reader from floating point representation, correctly rounded arithmetic, and the IEEE philosophy on exceptions, to an understanding of the crucial concepts of conditioning and stability, explained in a simple yet rigorous context. It gives technical details that are not readily available elsewhere and includes challenging exercises that go beyond the topics covered in the text.

Applications of Stochastic Programming (Mps-Siam Series on Optimization)
    709 pages | Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematic (June 15, 2005) | ISBN: 0898715555 | PDF | 37 Mb

Research on algorithms and applications of stochastic programming, the study of procedures for decision making under uncertainty over time, has been very active in recent years and deserves to be more widely known. This is the first book devoted to the full scale of applications of stochastic programming and also the first to provide access to publicly available algorithmic systems. The 32 contributed papers in this volume are written by leading stochastic programming specialists and reflect the high level of activity in recent years in research on algorithms and applications. The book introduces the power of stochastic programming to a wider audience and demonstrates the application areas where this approach is superior to other modeling approaches. Applications of Stochastic Programming consists of two parts.

Applied Dynamic Programming for Optimization of Dynamical Systems (Advances in Design and Control)
    260 pages | Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematic (July 2005) | ISBN: 0898715865 | PDF | 11 Mb

The book is a welcome addition to the dynamical systems field. The marriage of optimization broadly and dynamic programming in particular to a family of problems in robotics and spacecraft maneuvers is beautifully executed. There is good balance between development of methodology and presentation of illustrative applications. The detailed appendices will be most appreciated by serious students who wish to understand these results and carry them further. In summary, I like this book and warmly recommend it. John L. Junkins, Distinguished Professor of Aerospace Engineering, Director, Center for Mechanics and Control, Texas A&M University
