This new CD from BR-KLASSIK features the ballet music 'Carmen Suite', based on the famous melodies from George Bizet's eponymous opera and masterfully arranged and adapted by the composer Rodion Shchedrin in 1968, and Ottorino Respighi's well-known symphonic poem 'Pini di Roma' (The Pines of Rome), written in 1924. The name of the Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin is primarily associated in the West with his 'Carmen Suite', which has been highly popular ever since its first performance.

With a quartet of violin concertos by Jean-Marie Leclair, Leila Schayegh continues her exploration of the instrument’s repertory, combining musical insight, virtuosic brilliance and historical understanding. Leclair, who grew up in Lyon and studied in Turin before moving to Paris (he held a short-lived official post at Louis XV’s court in the 1730s) produced solo sonatas (and duos) as well as his acclaimed concertos.

The Choir of the West is the premier choral ensemble of the Department of Music at Pacific Lutheran University, located in Tacoma, Washington. The choir was founded in 1926 and was the third Lutheran college choir to tour extensively throughout the United States.

Tõnu Kõrvits (b. 1969) is together with Arvo Pärt and Erkki-Sven Tüür among the most interesting Estonian composers of our time. This album by the Estonian NSO and Risto Joost consists of orchestral works written between a period of ten years, from 2007 to 2018. These works have been inspired by a variety of themes and are rich with delicate atmosphere possessing a particularly Northern feel combined with a romantic and Impressionistic touch.

Following their debut album for Resonus Classics, The Choir of HM Chapel Royal, Hampton Court Palace, with their director Carl Jackson, returns with an album of choral works by the late-Tudor composer Thomas Tomkins (1572–1656). Featuring elaborate verse anthems, two settings of the Evensong canticles, and four-part psalm settings, this album reminds us of Tomkins’s prominence as one of the greatest Chapel Royal composers of the late-English Renaissance.

’Genesis’ is the debut album from accordionist Bartosz Glowacki, containing music from various eras and styles including works by D. Scarlatti, Arvo Part, and Piazzolla.

“Eyes of the Universe” offers some gorgeous prog moments very reminiscent of the best ALAN PARSONS PROJECT work.

This originally 2-LP is my introduction to Barclay James Harvest. I was searching for progrock in a record store and my eyes felt on the inner sleeve of that 2-LP.

For me this album is fantastic, a summa of Barclay James Harvest kind of music. It opens with a classic with an optimistic note from the pen of Les Holroyd titled "The World Goes On".

BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST released a number of fantastic recordings in the 70's with "Time Honoured Ghosts" representing one of this music lovers favourites.

Andy LaVerne is featured playing two Yamaha grand pianos on this session, though it was not your typical overdub; it was essentially done live with LaVerne playing first on one instrument equipped with a disklavier (essentially a computer that records all the nuances of what's played) and accompanying the first performance live on a second piano, enabling better interaction. LaVerne's hypnotic "Pair Of Chairs" introduces the concept with success, while Bill Evans' little known "Orbit" is given a Brazilian flavor. "Maiden Voyage" works particularly well with two pianos, which would be very difficult to pull off as a solo; then in Chick Corea's "Spain" LaVerne makes use of the full range of both keyboards combined for a richly textured arrangement. This is a very interesting experiment worth acquiring by fans of duo piano.

Walker is a multi-instrumentalist who specialises in country and Americana and played all of the instruments on the 10-track album himself, taking influence from the likes of The Band, Brothers Osborne, Little Feat, Jason Isbell and Lowell George on the record. Speaking about the album, Walker explained how he tries to keep his songs as entertaining as possible in a number of different ways, while also opening up on the instrumental side of things.

Ronnie Earl's Maxwell Street is named in honour of blues pianist and previous member of the Broadcasters David Maxwell and is a nod to Chicago's Maxwell Street where blues musicians gathered to play outside for the Sunday market crowds. It confirms Ronnie Earl's status as one of the most soulful blues/soul/jazz guitarists working today. Earl is a three-time Blues Award winner as Guitarist Of The Year working with his band of over 25 years. This album is dedicated to my big brother David Maxwell. We were born on the same day ten years apart. His playing was a deep as the ocean, as high as the sky and as bright as a quasar. When he passed I felt a huge loss as I still do.
