Victoria Samek, founder and artistic director of Clarinet & Saxophone Classics, performs a dazzling programme of world premiere recordings for E flat, B flat and bass clarinet. As a performer with a lifelong commitment to commissioning new solo, chamber and concertos for clarinet, Orfeo Calms the Furies encapsulates the very essence of Victoria’s commitment to her instruments and whose musical excellence and technical brilliance has inspired composers to write for the clarinet. Orfeo IV (originally written for flute and tape) was newly transcribed for E flat clarinet and is the culmination of Victoria’s relationship with Thea Musgrave spanning nearly 50 years. Following many commissions and dedications, Orfeo IV is now realised in this stunning new setting with a newly developed immersive clarinet digital setting.

Atlantis Quartet’s 'Live at Berlin' captures a freewheeling set from a band with deep musical telepathy. Longtime pillars of the Twin Cities jazz scene, saxophonist Brandon Wozniak, guitarist Zacc Harris, bassist Chris Bates, and drummer Pete Hennig push into a more open-ended sound on this bold live album, recorded during the opening week of Minneapolis’s newest jazz club.

The superb Sicilian baroque six-voice oratorio is based on the Book of Daniel, and its dramatic plot brings to life the story of the three Jewish youths condemned by King Nebuchadnezzar to be thrown into a fiery furnace for refusing to worship the king's statue. The story was used by Falvetti and his librettist Giatini to convey Sicily's national struggle.

This is the first album for the New Moon Saxophone Quartet. They have selected mainly French works composed for the saxophone quartet that they have performed in concert. They also selected a sonatineo by Akira Miyagawa. He was a special visiting professor at our alma mater, Nagoya University of Arts, from 2022 to 2024. The album contains six pieces that allow you to enjoy the charm of the saxophone quartet, from lively and agile passages to profound and softly intimate harmonies.

Sergei Rachmaninoff composed his Piano Concerto No. 1 in F♯ minor, Op. 1, in 1891, at age 17–18 (the first two movements were completed while he was still 17; the third movement and the orchestration were completed shortly after he had turned 18). He dedicated the work to Alexander Siloti. He revised the work thoroughly in 1917.

Robert Plane Longtime principal clarinetist of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Robert Plane has also cultivated a vigorous solo career. He has been especially noted for his intensive explorations of the British clarinet repertory and his support of new music.Plane was born in Great Yarmouth in the east of England and began wind studies at school on the recorder. He switched to the clarinet after hearing famed clarinetist Jack Brymer play a concert in the town's Hippodrome – directly after a circus had closed at the venue, he recalled, and the smell of the circus animals remained. Plane's teacher was Thea King, long-time principal clarinetist of the English Chamber Orchestra. A breakthrough came in 1992 when he won the Royal Overseas League Music Competition in London. After that, he began to land solo appearances with, among others, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, the Malta Philharmonic, and the City of London Sinfonia. Plane has been an orchestral clarinetist for most of his career. After stints as the principal clarinetist of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Northern Sinfonia, he joined the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in that position in 1999. He has also taught clarinet at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and Queen's University. Plane has played clarinet quintet repertory extensively with Germany's Mandelring Quartett as well as a variety of British and American groups. He is especially noted for his advocacy of contemporary music, both as a performer and as a recording artist. In the double concerto Centauromachy, by Simon Holt, he made his BBC Proms debut in 2011. Plane's large recording catalog dates back to 1998 with a recording of Gerald Finzi's Concerto for clarinet and string orchestra, Op. 31, and has focused mostly on British music. Among his highlights is a critically acclaimed 2008 recording of Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time with the Gould Piano Trio, marking the 100th anniversary of the composer's birth. He has recorded for the Naxos, Chandos, and Resonus Classics labels, among others; on Resonus, he was heard on By Footpath and Stile, an album of Finzi's chamber music, in 2019.

The members of Explosions In The Sky played their first show, at the University of Texas’ student radio station, on July 4, 1999, under the short-lived moniker, Breaker Morant. A year later, they recorded their first album, How Strange, Innocence, over the course of two days, and made 300 CD-R copies to sell at shows and give to friends in their hometown of Austin, TX.

Jazz harmonica virtuoso Hendrik Meurkens began his career in Germany playing vibes. In 1992, a trip to California led to his signing with the prestigious Concord label and established him as the first major new voice on the harmonica since Toots Thielemans. His 28 CDs have received rave reviews and strong airplay and he has been listed repeatedly in the Downbeat and Jazziz Polls.
