In recent years there have been a number of recordings with music by Giacomo Carissimi. Many of these feature his oratorios which gave the composer his fame in his own time and in modern times also. There are recordings of his best-known oratorios, like Jephte, Ionas, Job.

Jazz is always seems to be a hard thing to capture well in any recording. Not only are the instruments amongst the most complex acoustically, some are capable of producing music in an incredibly large dynamic range. Even if this wasn’t an issue, capturing the correct timbre itself, the physical essence of the music is a huge challenge.

For this change of pace, singer/pianist Shirley Horn performs 15 songs associated with Ray Charles. Of course, Horn sounds nothing like Charles, but she sometimes captures his spirit on such songs as "Hit the Road, Jack," "You Don't Know Me" (which finds her switching to organ), "Makin' Whoopee" and "How Long Has This Been Going On." ~ AllMusic

If you like music of the Strauss family, this is a superb concert with great sound from 1987. The concert lasts about 90 minutes, with very few interruptions between pieces. This is a definite download.
