From the Depths of Darkness" is a re-recording of tracks from the first two albums, "Burzum" and "Det Som Engang Var".Inspired by the recording of "Belus" and in the middle of the process of writing "Fallen" Varg went into the studio in March 2010 and re-recorded a selected number of tracks from the early days of Burzum. The result is a hard hitting and great sounding collection of tracks sounding the way Varg wanted the tracks to sound and to be heard by his dedicated fans and supporters

Carles Benavent is one of the privileged geniuses that is sought out by a long list of artists such as Chick Corea, Miles Davis and Paco de Lucia. Quartet shows the importance for the group Benavent is on this new project, consisting entirely of new songs written for the quartet. The band sounds compact and balanced, with spaces for the individual brilliance of each of the four virtuosos, which are the perfect mattress to the brightness of Benavent.

Cousin Joe was born Joseph Pleasant in Wallace, Louisiana in December 1907. He became one of the greatest blues singers ever out of the Crescent City. On this CD is compiled his first recordings made in 1945 and 1946 for the King Jazz, Savoy, and Gothic labels. Today Joe is greatly overlooked amongst New Orleans music talent.

EXTENDED PLAY was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album. With a front line that features saxophone, trombone, and vibraphone/marimba, the Dave Holland Quintet features an immediately identifiable band sound. As for backing, bassist Holland and traps man Billy Kilson provide a push-me-pull-you, supple and responsive rhythm section that is an embarrassment of riches when it comes to accompaniment ideas. The thing that separates the men from the boys in the world of jazz improvisation is listening–when the performers are paying close attention to one another, the creative horizons are all but limitless.

Dexter Gordon (tenor sax) entered the 1970s — as well as his career’s quarter-century mark — on a definite upstroke with the sly, sexy — and above else — stylish platter The Panther! (1970). Gordon commands a quartet whose membership boasts luminaries Tommy Flanagan (piano), Larry Ridley (bass), and Alan Dawson (drums). Remarkably — or perhaps simply a testament to Gordon and company’s prowess — the album’s half-dozen sides all hail from a single early July 1970 get-together. The material is divided between outstanding interpretations of the Great American Songbook classic “Body and Soul,” the Mel Tormé co-penned seasonal standard “The Christmas Song” aka “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire,” Clifford Brown’s “Blues Walk,” and a trio of Gordon originals.

Herbie Hancock's edition in the Columbia This Is Jazz series draws six tracks from the approximately 12-year period between 1974 and 1986. An electric band is featured on half of the selections, including "Gentle Thoughts" from Secrets, "Actual Proof" from Thrust, and "Calypso" from Mr. Hands. These aren't exactly the best tracks from Hancock's electric period, and the acoustic portion – covering "The Sorcerer" from a 1981 V.S.O.P. performance in Tokyo, the live duet "Maiden Voyage" by Hancock and Chick Corea, and "The Peacocks" from the 1986 film 'Round Midnight – are similarly erratic. All of the selections on This Is Jazz are good, but it doesn't make much sense to feature such a scattered set of tracks.

All five titles included in this set feature a DTS 5.1 surround mix, available for the first time for these programs. Carlos Kleiber’s appearances, whether in the concert hall or opera house, were legendary both for their rarity and the sublime quality of the music-making. It is no exaggeration to say that Kleiber was one of the most sought-after and highly-regarded conductors of the late 20th century.

This 2 CD set contains all known complete tunes by the the all-star quintet at New York's Half Note club on Feburary 24 & March 3. 1959. A bonus album has been added feautering both Warne Marsh and Lee Konitz in a quartet setting with Peter Ind and Al Levitt. It was recorded live in London March 15. 1976. This import version of Live at the Half Note with Lee Konitz, Warne Marsh, and Bill Evans has not only all the tunes of the domestic version, but a whole other wonderful album, the Konitz/Marsh London Concert, included as well! Also, extensive notes in the booklet give helpful background information.
