This dutch band featuring members of Ekseption stood exactly at the fragile and blurred frontier between mid 70's ugly, commercial, US-market oriented sounding jazz rock, and the kind of cool european jazz fusion that was pouring from Scandinavia back then (think Secret Oyster for instance). … Nothing life-changing here, but if you're into 70's european jazz rock and find a copy for a cool price, it's worth a few spins.

Turn Back the Clock is the debut album by Johnny Hates Jazz released in the beginning of 1988. The band consists of Clark Datchler, Mike Nocito and Calvin Hayes. The album, whose most famous single was "Shattered Dreams," peaked at #1 on the UK charts, and #56 on the Billboard 200. Kim Wilde sung backing vocals on the song "Turn Back the Clock." The track "Foolish Heart" was originally released as a single in 1986 as "Me and My Foolish Heart."

Three double concertos for harpsichord by Bach survive, all dating from around 1736, and all arrangements of earlier compositions. BWV 1060 is thought to have originated as a now lost double concerto for oboe and violin, while BWV 1062 is a reworking of the well-loved concerto for two violins. Unlike these two works, BWV 1061 was composed for two harpsichords from the outset, but probably started out as a concerto without orchestral accompaniment – this will have been added later. Performing these works, with a quintet of string players from the Bach Collegium Japan, Masaaki Suzuki is joined by his son Masato. For the present disc Masato Suzuki has also taken a page from Bach’s own book, in arranging the composer’s Orchestral Suite No.1 for two unaccompanied harpsichords.

As part of a major partnership with Parnassus Arts (which previously brought Handel’s Alessandro and ROKOKO, the January 2014 solo album from Max Emanuel Cencic), this is the first album from the Athens-based orchestra and their conductor.

Stravinsky’s collaboration with the violinist Samuel Dushkin was a great artistic success, generating new works for the repertoire as well as arrangements of some of the composer’s most tuneful and popular works. Of these arrangements, Dushkin wrote that Stravinsky seemed ‘to go back to the essence of the music and rewrite or recreate the music in the spirit of the new instrument’. In reducing items from The Firebird or The Fairy’s Kiss to the violin and piano medium, Stravinsky rethought and respaced their every chord’.
