Eine Glashütte im finsteren Bayern des 19. Jahrhunderts: Der wichtigste Arbeiter ist gestorben und hat das Geheimnis der Rubinglasherstellung mit ins Grab genommen. Der Glashüttenbesitzer weiß keinen anderen Rat und engagiert den legendären Hellseher Mühlhias (Joseph Bierbichler). Er soll das Geheimnis enträtseln. Doch Mühlhias' Prophezeiungen enthalten nicht das begehrte Rezept, sondern sagen unabänderliche Katastrophen voraus. Die Hütte werde Feuer fangen und der Besitzer dem Wahnsinn verfallen…
