Director Danny Pang's Seven 2 One earned some buzz prior to release - though not for entirely positive reasons. Six members of the film's young cast also appeared in Herman Yau's Split Second Murders, which was shot after but released before Seven 2 One, with Seven's producers claiming that Murders ripped off their film's ending. In another controversy, the poster for Seven 2 One took its inspiration from the 2008 Hollywood thriller Vantage Point, with the image concept constituting a direct swipe. With all these accusations of "who copied who" flying around, does anyone remember that there's an actual movie to discuss? Hopefully they do, because Seven 2 One is a slick, if unsubstantial thriller that consistently entertains.

Sukeban Deka III is back. After supporting role duties in the first Sukeban Deka Movie SDIII receives her own film. This one concerns a group of fascist youth cops, and their power hungry leader who intends to overthrow the government. Initially fighting side by side with the youth cops, SDIII grows uncomfortable with their use of excessive force, and quits the team. The youth cops strike back, kidnapping SDIII’s sisters, forcing SDII to form an alliance with the well meaning street punks the cops had so royally busted. What follows are more Yo-Yo and huge explosion action than you can shake a stick at, as SDIII’s and crew attempt to rescue the sisters while thwarting a terrorist attack on Tokyo. Sukeban Deka 2 is a wildly entertaining film, but somehow not in the same league as its predecessor. SDIII may be cuter than SDII, but the fight choreography, pacing, and the development of the primary villian all could have used a bit more work. But like I said, the film is still a blast to watch, and makes quite the nice double feature with Sukeban Deka The Movie.

I think enough time has passed now that we can all admit that the 1980's were basically a bad idea, but the Decade Of Excess did manage to produce some great cultural relics (deliberately or not). A new one for my list is SUKEBAN DEKA. Originally a Manga and then a TV show, and finally a movie in 1985, SUKEBAN DEKA is the story of a special (and secret) branch of the police which employs Japanese schoolgirls to fight crime… with yoyos! The reasons for this are presumably explained somewhere, but the audience of this film is assumed to be familiar with the history. The main star of the film is apparently the actress from the first series, but to fight a particularly villainous megalomaniac high school principal she has to enlist the help of two other Sukeban Dekas and her buddy Marble Girl! The plot is quite entertaining, with a high school for delinquents on a Japanese island that's secretly training the pupils to be obedient soldiers - vague shades of BATTLE ROYALE - and our gang of teenagers basically on a mission to stop them, and kick their asses. The weapon of choice for a Sukeban Deka is a yoyo made out of a super-dense compound so that it deals unfeasible amounts of damage to whatever they swing it at - how cool is that? Cool enough for Quentin Tarantino to rip it off for Go-Go Yubari in KILL BILL, at least ;-) The film is quite violent, very melodramatic and cheesier than Switzerland - which makes for great fun viewing… in a 1980's sorta way :) Recommended!

A bord, Fred nous fait parcourir tous les étages du Foch. Nous pénétrons dans la salle des machines, le hangar des avions de défense, parcourons le pont d’envol et tous ses dangers, visitons les dortoirs et même un bloc opératoire.
Du camion, Jamy nous explique la production d’électricité à base de propulsion à vapeur ou à base de propulsion nucléaire, comment se fait le catapultage et l’appontage des avions ainsi que les risques causés par le tangage et le roulis.
