A detective opens up a fifteen-year-old missing persons case and begins to suspect that the boy it belongs to was murdered - and that a local rancher was involved.

Hometown boy Quizz West (William Eythe) is one of fewer than 19,000 draftees in 1940. After being familiarized with his fiancée Janet and him, we find Quizz at a gun position fighting off the Japanese along the Philippine shoreline. The situation becomes hopeless for Quizz and his fellow gunners and it's either flee or hold their positions and provide cover for escapees. To make his decision, Quizz communes with his mother and Janet through the medium of dreams.

Just prior to World War One the hard drinking sharpshooting, Irish American Colonel Flynn O'Flynn, uses British aristocrat Sebastian Oldsmith to help poach ivory from German controlled territory in East Africa, putting them at odds with Herman Fleischer, the local German Provincial Commander. When Sebastian is infected with malaria he is nursed back to health by Flynn's daughter Rosa, they fall in love and marry. Not long after Britain declares war on Germany and they are drawn into the conflict, ultimately making a daring attack on the German armored cruiser SMS Blücher as it undergoes repairs in a local estuary.

In 1971 Salford fish-and-chip shop owner George Khan expects his family to follow his strict Pakistani Muslim ways. But his children, with an English mother and having been born and brought up in Britain, increasingly see themselves as British and start to reject their father's rules on dress, food, religion, and living in general.

Kevin McCloud travels to remote corners of the globe to meet people who have relocated to the most surprising and unlikely places in pursuit of a pared down existence.

Country lawyer Lynn Hollister comes to the city to investigate the murder of a friend found shot after spending the evening in The Inferno, a night club that fronts for an illicit gambling operation. It is covertly run by an affable but corrupt politician, 'Boss' Tom Cameron, who uses voter fraud to maintain influence on city hall and the governor's mansion. Hollister learns that his friend was a winner in a dice game on the night of the murder and threatened exposure of Cameron's vice racket. Complications arise when other underworld forces vie to take over Cameron's operation, and Holister falls in love with Cameron's beautiful daughter.

A man is fired from his job. Having no more options, he decides to go find work abroad, leaving behind his wife and daughter. Months pass and his family hear no word from him. A stranger, a mechanic, arrives in town in search of work. His eyes wander to the beautiful young woman whom he hears no longer has a husband. A struggle to survive of a generation torn between wanting to leave its country yet bound by blood to home.

Poet Yusuf learns of his mother’s death and returns to his hometown after many years. In his mother's house his young cousin Ayla awaits him and informs him about his mother’s dying wish to perform a ritual sheep sacrifice. The pair set out on a journey to the tomb of a saint to perform the ritual. Arriving late in the evening, the they are forced to wait until dawn to complete their task.
