There was a thriving and throbbing rock scene in Denmark in the late 60s. Of course originally inspired by Beatles, Dylan, Stones. But later entheogenic drugs and the music of Hendrix, Cream, Pink Floyd came to the forefront. Like many other bands at the time Burnin Red Ivanhoe mainly consisted of musicians who were well versed in jazz and now wanted to seek new, more adventurous pastures. Led by sax-player Karsten Vogel the band was significantly inspired by Frank Zappa with odd metres and atonal riffing. But they also showed a highly developed sense of melody. Amazon
