Following an inauspicious first release for Island, John Martyn's unique brand of acoustic music began to take some sort of shape with the Al Stewart-produced The Tumbler. Martyn, whose debut was a solo acoustic offering, here employs a second guitar, bass and, most notably, jazz flautist Harold McNair to create his blend of folk, blues and jazz.

Roger Waters’ 1st album after finally splitting from Pink Floyd. The album features contributions by Eric Clapton, David Sanborn and Andy Newmark. Although bearing many of the familiar hallmarks of his writing style on the later ‘Floyd’ albums, this is very much Waters’ own baby. A feature of this album is his previously unseen sense of humour, which is still a little hard to explain – you just need to hear it for yourself.
