ELP initially wanted to release this album as a free give away with "Tarkus", but common sense prevailed and it was released in the UK, on "Island Records". An exceptionally well recorded album - the drums, in particular, are captured with clarity and dynamics, and the mix is very well balanced. "Pictures at an Exhibition" is a great album from my childhood and it still gives me excitement and fun to hear this LP. Dim the lights tonight, increase the **volume and Enjoy! ** Beware: The ultimate "workout" for your speakers :-) Note: Tracks walk-over in each other; so gapless burning is essential to seamless play the whole album.

Brainbox is a Dutch rock group from the late 1960s/early 1970s. It was founded in Amsterdam by guitarist Jan Akkerman, drummer Pierre van der Linden and singer Kazimir Lux. Their debut single was "Down Man", which established their progressive blues sound. They had hit singles in the Netherlands, including "Between Alpha and Omega", "Doomsday Train", Reason to Believe and "Smile". Soon after they released their first album, Akkerman and van der Linden left the group to join Focus.

The Left Banke had been together for less than a year when their debut single, "Walk Away Renée," became a hit, and once the band began touring steadily, they started to fracture… and the line-up was down to a trio. Not promising circumstances for the creation of The Left Banke Too, but surprisingly it's a fine album that shows the group's second string had plenty of talent and a sound creative vision.

The Left Banke pioneered something new with their debut single, 1967's "Walk Away Renée," which incorporated a small string section, harpsichord, and woodwinds to give the song a light yet dramatic Baroque flavour that was unique in rock at the time, and a perfect complement to the song's bittersweet tale of unrequited love. If the Left Banke's moment of stardom was fleeting, Walk Away Renée/Pretty Ballerina reveals, for a brief and exciting moment, they were one of the best and most innovative American bands in rock & roll.
