Damien Jurado presents his new album, The Horizon Just Laughed. Like previous albums, The Horizon Just Laughed started with a dream - though that's where things change, as they often do. It is Damien Jurado's first self-produced album in a 20+ year career, more personal and more rooted than even his Maraqopa trilogy, as though after so much time on the road he's stumbled upon his home. The album feels like a beautiful collage - its narrative pieced together through letters and postcards, with each part contributing to its greater whole, and providing snapshots of ones journey to find a sense of place and connection to a changing world.

We owe it to William Shakespeare to have us together. It was in November 2013: inspired by the plays of the famous English playwright, we had conceived together a course mixing texts and music. Our trio found here the ferments of his poetic universe. Through the concerts, we found a sound identity and a way of dialogue that belonged to us, a balance between improvisation and writing where everyone proposes and listens simultaneously. After 3 years of existence and a record, our Shakespeare Songs were now well-honed.

Larry Porter, Andreas Lang and Joe Smith have been working together for five years now and have covered a lot of ground during this time. Interpreting standards is one area they've particularly developed. Many of the performances on this CD feature a more collective approach. Instead of one solo after another, the three musicians enter into a dialogue where each can contribute and respond as he wishes. While this idea may not be new, its realization has remained fairly elusive. Therefore the band is excited about being able to present the results of its efforts to you.

Nature, it seems, is where the band often goes to calibrate it's moral compass so frequently upended by the daily news-cycle. Sugar Candy Mountain invites you to join them on this journey singing "There's a quiet place I go when I need to find my way/ There's a quiet place inside/ Come on in just knock and a door will open". Musically, the band remains rooted in 60's and 70's rock, with their signature honey sweet vocals.

Closer To Stranger is the new solo album by Pakistani-born dream-folk musician Ilyas Ahmed. Drawing on a wide range of influences, his songs incorporate classic singer-songwriter gestures alongside more experimental leanings. Recorded to tape in the studio by Justin Higgins in the fall of 2016 and finished in the spring of 2017, Ahmed’s instrumental palette includes: acoustic and electric 6 and 12-string guitars, Fender Rhodes, multiple keyboards, tanpura, and percussion. Closer To Stranger stands as a meditation on uneasy identity politics during times of unreason, seeking peace amidst chaos.
