From the earliest, unknowing days of the pandemic sprang Corrina Repp’s seventh solo album Island. Resonant and resolute, the album is suffused with peaceful energy, touching on universal themes while existing as a document of Corrina’s inner life during that time.

An Evening at the Theatre is a reconstruction of the musical part of a masque as it might have been performed in a London theatre around 1685. The English masque, inspired in part by the commedia dell'arte and French ballet, was a courtly entertainment combining instrumental music, dance, theatre, song and pantomime; it enjoyed its greatest popularity between 1560 and 1640, during the reigns of Elizabeth I and Charles I.

Polish composer Alfons Szczerbiński was born at a time of upheaval in Europe during the second half of the 19th century. A prominent Polish talent in the Romantic mould, Szczerbiński was profoundly influenced by the harmonic models of Bach, Haydn and Mozart.

The repertoire is inspired by the re-reading of jazz standards. It also opens up a space for new compositions.

As mother and daughter, pianists Eliane Rodrigues and Nina Smeets infuse their own personal flair with Rodrigues’s arrangement, following the path Beethoven paved while connecting his work to the present day with small instances of improvisation throughout that reflect his original stylistic preferences…

The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows was originally intended as an orchestral piece inspired by the landscapes of Iceland. This last year has seen Albarn return to the music in lockdown and develop the work to 11 tracks which further explore themes of fragility, loss, emergence and rebirth.

Long running hard rockers L.A. Guns have announced the release of their new studio album, "Checkered Past". Written and recorded while the world was still in the grips of the coronavirus pandemic, the new studio album sees Tracii Guns, Phil Lewis, and company continuing with the darker lyrical tone of the preceding studio albums, "The Devil You Know" and "The Missing Peace", while incorporating their classic rock influences into the mix.

Inspired by large-scale film music, Christopher von Deylen (SCHILLER) develops his own epic orchestral sound on “EPIC”. For this, he combines his atmospheric soundscapes with emotional orchestral arrangements to create a gigantic head cinema soundtrack.

This album explores music for viola da Gamba and organ from 17th-century Austria, played by Viktor Toepelmann and organist Daniela Niedhammer on original instruments from that time. The recording took place in a small village church in Austria, which houses an original church organ from 1662.

After releasing String Quartets Nos. 1, 2 & 4 in 2019, the Ragazze Quartet now completes the Bartók Quartets cycle with Bartók Bound, Vol. 2 (String Quartets Nos. 3, 5 & 6).

The works by a symbiotic trio of composers interleaved in this programme are genuinely ‘intimate letters’ in a double sense. For in these musical ‘missives’, the correspondence of letters (of the alphabet) and (musical) notes in German notation allowed their creators to play with secret messages.

Neshima is Hebrew for breath. Our breath is our constant friend, it accompanies us through every moment of our lives, in our wake as well as in our sleep, through joyful times and in sorrow. Most of the time we might not give it any heed, but it is always there. While breath is universal in that it is what connects us with life, it is also extremely personal, my breath is my life.

Hélène de Montgeroult was a student of Clementi in Paris. She survived the French Revolution – during which, as an aristocrat, her life was in grave danger – to become a celebrated pianist, composer and author of a famous piano method. Her compositional language in these nine sonatas is wide and includes Italianate models as well as elements that reflect the influence of Haydn and Mozart, with chromatic and surprising harmonies, contrasts of register, chorale-like nobility and brilliantly athletic finales.
