"This is one of the best Philip Glass albums in ages. Led by French Canadian violinist Angele Dubeau, the all-female string-ensemble La Pieta has woven together some of the composer's most moodily romantic and irresistible pieces, playing them with a lush, almost hypnotizing beauty. The album includes his "Mishima" and "Company" scores, as well as the piano-laced suite from "The Hours." The theme from "The Secret Agent" soundtrack is one of Glass' most haunting melodies, with a mysteriously dramatic quality that's almost Purcell-like. "Echorus" is another Baroque-channeling highlight, violins singing bittersweet over a slowly rocking rhythm. From one end of the album to the other, it feels like one long song, in the best sense." – Bradley Bambarger, The Star-Ledger (Newark)

Before Alabama, bands were usually relegated to a supporting role in country music. In the first part of the century, bands were popular with audiences across the country, but as recordings became available, nearly every popular recording artist was a vocalist, not a group. Alabama was the group that made country bands popular again. Emerging in the late '70s, the band had roots in both country and rock; in fact, many of Alabama's musical concepts, particularly the idea of a performing band, owed more to rock and pop than hardcore country.

Guitarist Chieli Minucci and percussion maestro George Jinda come pretty close to the lofty status as far as the pop instrumental genre goes, having been cranking out solid hit after hit for GRP and JVC since the early '80s. They cornered the market for a long time in that tasty area where melodic, breezy jazz meets easy worldbeat, but apparently started hitting a few creative walls — as potent as each new disc was, it was merely an attractive variation on previous ones.

Another overlooked Barry Gibb gem that I really love. Some truly wonderful work that deserved a lot of attention but was ignored due to the "anti-Bee Gees" sentiment that had set in post-disco. There is nothing "disco" about this album. If you are a Barry Gibb fan, give these songs a listen –- you will not be disappointed. The man has always been a genius, and I cannot think of a single song here that is not right up there with any of his best work. A great album well worth listening to for any Barry Gibb or Bee Gees fan.

Blonker (real name Dieter Geike) music is guitars. He feels music and creates melodies. He develops sounds - a sound of his own. In his own home-studio out in the country contrasts dissolve: the coolness of perfect studio-equipment and the warmth of a rural idyllic farm. This CD was originally released in 1993 at the "Prudence" label by BSC Records.

One of contemporary music’s greatest and most elusive mavericks returns to Tzadik with yet another CD of ear bending electronic sounds. A student of Stockhausen and close collaborator of John Cage and David Behrman, Amacher has been creating acoustic art, electronic soundscapes and site-specific installation work since 1967. A new CD of Amacher compositions is a true cause for celebration and Teo! Is one of her greatest works. The winner of Prix Ars Electronica in the Digital Musics category, Teo! premiered in the Esplanade of the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City and is a collaboration with scientists at the Sun Pyramid of Teotihuacan. An absolutely stunning electronic masterpiece!
