After almost a decade, Hyperion is delighted to welcome back the world-famous St Paul’s Cathedral Choir under its new director of music, Hyperion artist and also director of The Cardinall’s Musick, Andrew Carwood. Joined by the St Paul’s Mozart Orchestra and a quartet of renowned soloists, Carwood leads sparkling performances of a selection of Mozart’s sacred music. Although they were commissioned to be sung at church services in Salzburg, all these compositions are suffused with Mozart’s typically unerring sense of dramatic pacing and a sensuous, operatic treatment of solo lines, as well as crisp and energetic choral writing.

This is the third volume in the Chandos series devoted to the music of the Polish composer Witold Lutosławski. It brings together his first surviving orchestral piece (The Symphonic Variations) and his last symphony, as well as two works for piano and orchestra – an early work originally written for two pianos (The ‘Paganini’ Variations), and his very last concerto. The works are performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Edward Gardner, described by Gramophone as a veritable ‘Dream Team’ in Vol. 1. They are joined in this recording by Louis Lortie, the award-winning pianist and exclusive Chandos artist.

In 1996, art-design maestro Russell Mills assembled the tremendously impressive Undark collective – both Brian and Roger Eno, David Sylvian, Bill Laswell, the Edge, Kevin Shields, Robin Guthrie, Hywel Davies, etc. – for an LP of guitar-damaged beatscapes and textured invisible-soundtracks. Strange Familiar is an astonishing work, ebbing and flowing better than any other album in recent memory. Mills and his crew don't always wait for the next track marker to introduce a new theme, resulting in a work that pays huge dividends over the course of a full listen.

'I would recommend this CD for Epithalamion alone, but those interested in the far corners of the last century's home-grown repertoire will find much else here to enjoy.'

The Yellow and Black Attack is the first release from the Christian metal band Stryper. No singles were released from this six-song EP, and fewer than 20,000 copies were pressed, as their label, Enigma Records, was unsure of the potential market for Christian metal. CCM Magazine was slightly critical, citing production quality and the short length of the release, but commented that "Stryper has the promise of a major success story.

Blackvoid, not to be confused with the Canadian Funk / Rock / Grunge / Funkcore / Blunk/ band of the same name, is a Depressive Black Metal one-man band from Chile. The project was started in 2010 by Blackvoid which is the sole member of the band. The band captures the darker and self-destructive feelings that characterize this damn specie, creating depressive music. The band's second album, 'asfixia', was self-released on January, 7th 2013. His debut album, 'Necristeza' was self-released in 2011. For fans of Xasthur, Make A Change… Kill Yourself… and the likes.

First of all, I’ve always liked Dweezil Zappa and admired his reverence for his influences. A fluent and stellar guitar player, he has continued to not only survive but thrive in his career despite the huge shadow of his genius father Frank (it’s true). Today, Dweezil and brother Ahmet keep Frank Zappa’s music alive on the live circuit with a band that even includes some previous members of father Frank’s ensemble. His musical journey through the 80′s and 90′s combined everything from hair-band influences to classical to Zappa-meets-They-Might-Be-Giants eclecticisms.
