Buffalo Bop was a German label dedicated to American rockabilly and roots-influenced rock'n'roll of the Fifties and early Sixties. In 1993 Buffalo Bop became a CD-only label, its specialty being themed compilations pulled from American rockabilly and early roots-influenced rock'n'roll. This compilation contains 29 female artists that working in the genre.

Guitarist Bireli Lagrene spent his teenage years sounding very close in style to Django Reinhardt. For this German import, his second recording, the 14-year old romps in Djangoish fashion on such tunes as "Djangology," "Lady Be Good" and "Nuages" but also was starting to show some individuality on his own originals. Most of the selections are performed with one or two rhythm guitarists and a bassist, all Europeans. Lagrene has since grown as a player; if only he had had the opportunity this early to record with violinist Stephane Grappelli before his own style changed.

Ernie Maresca was a fairly successful songwriter in the New York doo wop/rock & roll scene in the first half of the 1960s, usually in a style that combined doo wop with the developing sounds of girl groups or Dion's boastful Bronx pop/rock; the Regents' modest modern doo wop hit "Runaround" was the biggest of these. Although he didn't think of himself as a singer, and was an average nondescript vocalist at best, he was persuaded to record as a solo artist. In mid-1962, he ended up with his one and only hit under his own name, "Shout Shout (Knock Yourself Out)." A fun if extremely basic rocker that used the same chord pattern that anchored Dion hits like "Runaround Sue" and added the dance-rock energy of bands like Joey Dee & the Starliters, it made number six.

Life Garden originally began in 1989 with David and Su Ling Oliphant improvising an array of acoustic instruments, synthesizers, and samplers to the background of George Dillon spoken poetry. Tragically, by the time Life Garden's first album, Caught Between the Tapestry of Silence and Beauty, came out in 1991, Dillon had passed away from the results of a heart attack. The band would continue on with the addition of noisemakers Peter Ragan and Bill Yanok as Life Garden progressed with their use of Buddhist and Tantric influences set to digital machination. This sound would be captured on the albums Pry Open My Mouth With the Red Knife of Heaven (1992) and Seed (1993)…

Nuclear Blast recently announced the signing of the true teutonic heavy metal trio, Panzer. The new German supergroup is comprised of three undisputed genre legends: vocalist and bassist Schmier, best known as fronter of Destruction, guitarist Herman Frank (Accept, Victory), as well as drummer Stefan Schwarzmann (Accept, Running Wild).
