Dirty Looks emerged in 1984 like a high-energy, long-haired American equivalent of AC/DC, playing ferocious, hook-heavy songs. Dirty Looks had solid success with the albums Cool From the Wire (1988) and Five Easy Pieces (1992) which were the band's most popular. "Five Easy Pieces" was their first release on their new label, Sony/Columbia. The album's production is superb as Max Norman is once again hired to turn the knobs. Great rock album from beginning to end!

EARTH & FIRE were a band who had a string of hit songs, but at the same time created progressive music such as the side long suite on this record.The female vocals are very good, and the liberal use of mellotron only adds to the enjoyment….

After the failure of Gottle O'Geer, a poor, unfocussed album, some core members of Fairport arranged a new record deal and decided to have some fun, having accepted their place in the musical world. Let by fiddler Dave Swarbrick and guitarist Simon Nicol, they made a couple of fun, unpretentious and surprisingly rocking electric folk albums in this and Tippler's Tales. The album features a couple of sets of vigorous jigs and reels, as always, but also some great choices of vocal material, particularly the title track, a 12.5 minute tale of the Napoleonic wars.
