This is one of the more unusual sessions that altoist Cannonball Adderley recorded during his career. Originally released under composer John Benson Brooks' name, the nine-part four-movement suite has original folk melodies interpreted by a quartet comprised of Adderley, trumpeter Art Farmer, guitarist Barry Galbraith and bassist Milt Hinton; Brooks briefly plays piano on one piece. Although not essential, the music is thought-provoking, quite melodic, and looks backwards toward folk music of the 1800's while giving the pieces a 1950's jazz sensibility.

An epic 100 CD chronological documentation of the history of jazz music from 1898 to 1959, housed in four boxed sets. Each box contains 25 slipcase CDs, a booklet (up to 186 pages) and an index. The booklets contain extensive notes (Eng/Fr) with recording dates and line-ups. 31 hours of music in each box, totalling 1677 tracks Each track has been restored and mastered from original sources.

Steve Unruh is a multi-instrumentalist. On "Song to the Sky" you will hear acoustic guitars, violin, drumkit, flute, electric bass, vocals, tabla, congas, and kalimba. All played with great passion and virtuosic intensity. More than his abilities, though, are the energy and love you can feel in the notes and words. Steve pulls off some wonderful instrumental performances, his acoustic fingerpicking is exceptional, he makes his violins soar and weep, his percussive work is first class and lyrically, the man writes intriguing, thought provoking lyrics, straight from his heart.
