The present box is the third of five. Together it's 50 CDs of music by Klaus Schulze. It includes the former sets Silver Edition (10 CDs), Historic Edition (10 CDs), Jubilee Edition (25 CDs), and five new albums made especially as bonus for The Ultimate Edition.

There is a pattern to Avril Lavigne albums, one that's easily discernible to anybody paying attention. First comes the party, then comes the reflection, then comes the party again. Avril Lavigne, her eponymous fifth album, is an odd-numbered release, so that means it's one of her party records, somewhat mitigated by her union with fellow Canadian post-grunge superstar Chad Kroeger.

Al Green suffered a slight lull in his gospel career with 1984's Trust in God. As a response, he reunited with producer Willie Mitchell, who admittedly preferred the secular to the gospel. At this point, Green was unwavering in his faith and presents a challenge for He Is the Light. "Going Away" and "True Love" are great updates of the classic 1971-1976 sound with Green's dulcet, anxious vocals above an updated version of the sound that made him famous. The cover of "Be With Me Jesus" has Green in a playful mood despite the dire lyrics, and shows how Mitchell could coax vocals from Green no one else could. To Mitchell's credit, this album not only embraced Green's pop/gospel but also the newer sounds and styles Green had been working on in the '80s…

Three-time Grammy nominee, master of the jazz organ, trumpeter and vocalist Joey DeFrancesco swings hard and straight ahead. A prodigious talent at an early age, he joined the Miles Davis band when he was seventeen. At eighteen, he began touring with his own quartet. At twenty-two, John Mclaughlin called him along with drummer Dennis Chambers to form the group “Free Spirits.” Subsequently, Joey worked with greats such as George Benson, James Moody and Ray Charles. He’s won the Downbeat Critics Poll ten times and the Readers Poll every year since 2005. His current trio with Dan Wilson guitar and Jason Brown drums promises to rock the house.

Chicago native and classically trained pianist Patricia Barber's sixth album is a collection of downtempo standards, perfect for a rainy day. Taking on classics like "Autumn Leaves," "I Fall in Love Too Easily," "Bye Bye Blackbird," or even "Alfie" is always a risk, but her confident vocals and interpretations eradicate any doubt that she is a master. Her production is spare, allowing her to sing with such melancholy it's almost eerie. Not many performers can relay such harrowing feeling without over-emoting, but Barber makes it seem effortless.

This saxman's horns have been used by everyone from Elvis to the Kids From Fame over the years, but don't hold that against him. He had one of 1988's most underrated debuts, a self-titled effort that featured some of L.A.'s best musicians. His follow-up a year later cooked just as intensely, although poor label support led Herbig to go back to the sidelines and abandon the quest for solo stardom – a great pity. Though this disc lacks the Bill Champlin vocal tracks that put the first one into orbit, there's still so much to love here: the bouncy and melodic R&B of the title cut, some gospel-like blues (with the help of Don Grusin and Greg Matheson) on the steamy "Manhattan Lady," the soaring lite funk of "Follow Me," and a tad of happy blues on "Pride and Joy." Herbig seems to favor tunes of the expressive, soulful variety and sticks mostly to midtempo grooves to weave his hefty horn licks in and out of.

90 years young Jimmy Johnson returns to the recording studio for the first time in over a decade. It has been precisely forty years since his Delmark debut 'Johnson's Whacks'. Delmark celebrates Jimmy's homecoming by releasing 'Every Day of Your Life', an album comprised of four original songs and Jimmy's unique take on five other tunes including a solo performance of Jimmy singing and playing piano on the Bobby 'Blue' Bland hit 'Lead Me On'. Two different stellar Chicago bands back Jimmy throughout this album. Johnson was born in Holly Springs, Mississippi. He has playing professionally in Chicago since 1959 and has worked with Freddy King, Albert King, Magic Sam and Otis Rush among many others. Jimmy has always had an R&B style of blues and he brings it to this new album, his fourth for Delmark.

Given the paucity of César Franck's piano music on disc, Nikolai Lugansky's focus on this composer is to be commended. On his third release for harmonia mundi, the Russian pianist reveals an organ master strongly attached to the musical forms inherited from J.S. Bach: the prelude, the fugue, and the chorale. Translated to the piano keyboard, Franck's music, with it's expansively conceived structures, requires a completely fresh approach that puts the greatest performers to the test: here, Lugansky took on an additional challenge by preparing his own transcription (a brilliant one, at that!) of Franck's celebrated Choral pour grand orgue No.2.

After the great success of his Beethoven cycle, Christian Thielemann now turns with his new orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden, to the symphonic work of Johannes Brahms. Bonus features include: an extensive 52 minute interview with Christian Thielemann on Brahms' Symphonies and provides and in-depth look into his interpretation of Brahms.

This is the debut album as a leader by the Polish bassist/composer Marcin Pendowski, who started his career as a rock musician (as a member of the band Artrosis), but later on cooperated with many Polish Jazz musicians as well. On this album he presents ten original compositions recorded with a core group of musicians, which includes guitarist Krzysztof Kawałko, saxophonist Marcin Kajper, trumpeter Przemysław Kostrzewa, keyboardist Marcin Cichocki, drummer Tomasz Wałdowski and several guest artists. On the album Pendowski plays on two old electric basses manufactured in Czechoslovakia (Jolana Diamant) and Poland (Defil Mamba) during the Socialist regime, which have a very specific ambience.

South of the Border is an album by the David Murray Big Band released on the Japanese DIW label. Recorded in 1992 and released in 1995 the album features performances by Murray, Rasul Siddik, James Zoller, Hugh Ragin, Craig Harris, Frank Lacy, Al Patterson, Vincent Chancey, Kalil Henry, John Purcell, Patience Higgins, Don Byron, Sonelius Smith, Fred Hopkins, Tani Tabbal, and Larry McDonald, conducted by Lawrence "Butch" Morris.

The Wizards From Kansas' eponymous album finds this Midwestern group sounding more like a West Coast hybrid combining rambling, melancholy country-rock elements with harder psych-rock sounds. Their biggest influences seem to have been Northern California-based groups like the Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, and the Grateful Dead, and it shouldn't really come as a shock to discover that the Wizards From Kansas was recorded in San Francisco, between July and August of 1970. By the time the album was released, in October 1970, two of the band's five members had already quit the band, choosing instead to focus on playing jazz.
