    Behzad, a filmmaker from Tehran travels to a remote mountain village secretly planning to record a local ritual ceremony surrounding an old dying woman. Upon arrival, Behzad and his crew are met by Farzad, a young boy from the town who at first becomes their guide but ultimately becomes their informant on the fate of the old woman. Convincing the locals that they are archeologists looking for buried treasure, Behzad attempts to befriend them with mixed results. As the rustling wind, golden light and deep shadows of the village cast an alluring spell, the deathwatch drags on and the woman stubbornly clings to life, leaving Behzad's crew impatient. Evocative and haunting, THE WIND WILL CARRY US is constructed with Kiarostami's trademark soulful serenity, creating an extraordinarily beautiful and moving film. New Yorker Video

    The film, although based loosely on Patterson's account, romanticises his story and fictionalises important elements of the plot, William Goldman's script introducing Michael Douglas's big game hunter Remington. In reality, he did not exist and Patterson shot both lions. Many Maasai characters in the film were actually portrayed by South African actors, although the Maasais depicted during the hunt are real Maasai warriors who helped for the movie.
