    Charles Augustin Sainte-Beuve est un homme petit, laid, disgracieux et très susceptible. Objectivement oublié par la nature, il en rajoute. Il est dépressif, de santé délicate, vit chez sa mère et ne connaît des femmes que des amours tarifées. Pourtant, Sainte-Beuve a un rêve secret : devenir un jour un très grand écrivain, lui qui est seulement critique et côtoie pour son plus grand malheur la famille Hugo. Victor, face à lui, est jeune, beau, talentueux, et vole de succès en succès. Pour spolier un tant soit peu le génie, Sainte-Beuve entreprend de séduire sa femme. Dès cet instant, il accumule bourdes, quiproquos et mufleries et se fourvoie dans la peau d’un être vil et répugnant. Le personnage est infâme, mais l'interprétation magistralement drolatique de Gérard Jugnot donne au spectacle une dimension poétique et comique qui mâtine le vilain de tendresse.

    Jia shot Still Life in some of the same locations and at the same time as the documentary Dong and the relationship between the two is provocative. Dong records the painter Liu Xiao Dong as he prepares two large-scale works, one of half-naked male workers in Fengjie lounging with the river as a backdrop, the second of female entertainment workers in Bangkok lounging en deshabille amidst fruits and furniture. In Dong, we are supposed to be seeing documentary truth, as the artist Liu paints real people in a real place.
