The Zoot Sims Four - The Innocent Years (1982)
Viny Rip in 24bit/96kHz | FLAC + CUE | Scans | 790 Mb (Incl. Recovery)
Genre ~ Bop, Saxophone Jazz | Label ~ Pablo Records

For this Pablo album, the great tenor Zoot Sims (who doubles on soprano) interprets five pretty melodies plus his own "Pomme Au Four" with a quartet comprised of pianist Richard Wyands, bassist Frank Tate and drummer Akira Tana. All of the selections are highlights so they are worth mentioning: "I Hear a Rhapsody," "Over the Rainbow" (which Sims plays for nearly 11 minutes), "The Very Thought of You," "If You Were Mine" and "Indian Summer." This laid-back set is successful both as background music and for close listening. ~ AllMusic

This album captures Cale in his most creative period, and reveals why his obscure sound is so often imitated by those in the know. Really flows like an album should, with its own distinctly mellow vibe.

Reached #2 on Billboard's Top Jazz Albums, 1985

Sizzling from start to finish, “Harlequin” is the result of one of the most intuitive partnerships in the world of jazz. Although Lee Ritenour and Dave Grusin had been working together for a decade, “Harlequin” is regarded by the two musicians as their first genuine recorded collaboration, whereby from original concept, through selection of tracks and personnel to arrangements and mixing, it was truly a joint effort. Included in the top ten best jazz recordings ever by a noted poll, “Harlequin” is a blend of smoldering Brazilian rhythms and moods with a freshness and verve that brings on a tingle of excitement each time it is played. The scintillating jazz fusion of “Harlequin” includes added spice in the form of a major contribution by Brazilian singer-songwriter Ivan Lins who appears on three tracks.
