The animated special will premier on November 24 on NBC.

“Stranger Things,” Netflix’s sci-fi success story, hit the zeitgeist last year with the force of an invisible telekinetic blast from a psychic pre-teen on the run from government operatives. It did this by unabashedly culling references from 1980s pop culture, repurposing the pulpy horror tropes of the era into a story that resonated with a contemporary audience. With music, however, the same effect can be trickier to pull off. More often than not, when artists wholesale copy well-known motifs and themes, you’re left with an empty pastiche or an uninspired facsimile of a better musician.

Shawn Mendes brings his fans a live MTV Unplugged performance of hit tracks from his previous albums, Illuminate and Handwritten, on 11/3 via Island Records. The intimate performance took place in Downtown Los Angeles at The Theatre at Ace Hotel & aired on September 8th nationwide. Mendes’ Unplugged performance was the premiere to MTV’s ‘90s revival of the concert series. He will continue his Illuminate World Tour in Australia & New Zealand in November.

Marking the centenary of Debussy’s death on 25th March 1918, this album of chamber music is centred on the three sonatas the composer wrote during World War I, patriotically asserting himself as ‘Claude Debussy, musicien français.’ Six leading French musicians of today are the performers: pianist Bertrand Chamayou, flautist Emmanuel Pahud, violinist Renaud Capuçon, cellist Edgar Moreau, viola player Gerard Caussé and harpist Marie-Pierre Langlamet.

Nacht und Träume takes its name from one of Schubert’s best-loved lieder, which is joined on the album by a further 10 of the composer’s songs. All performed in orchestral versions by such masters as Berlioz, Liszt, Brahms, Strauss, Webern, Britten and Schubert himself, they are complemented by three choral numbers and an orchestral interlude. The singers are rising stars – German mezzo-soprano Wiebke Lehmkuhl and French tenor Stanislas de Barbeyrac – and Laurence Equilbey conducts two ensembles she founded: the Insula orchestra and the choir accentus.
