The enigmatic producer-composer-percussionist Kip Hanrahan developed his own A renowned composer, bandleader, visionary producer, and creative instigator, Kip Hanrahan has long been known for intensely passionate music that is both tender and hard-driving, with a deep poetic edge. 'Crescent Moon Waning' is the first Kip Hanrahan album since his 2011 release 'At Home in Anger'. The first encounter between Chinese composer Tan Dun and Norwegian violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing took place in 2010 during the Shanghai World Expo, when Hemsing premièred Tan’s Love Concerto. Both have strong roots in the traditional music of their native countries, and out of this meeting between traditions a fruitful collaboration has developed which also involves an investigation of the music that happens here and now. In Hemsing's words, the encounter ‘opened up my musical horizons’ and she has since performed a number of the composer's works involving the violin.

When Luca Aaron, Kristinn Kristinsson and Fabian Willmann played together for the first time in a rehearsal room of the Academy of Music Basel in 2014, they immediately felt a strong bond. “It was almost like salvation from the daily college-routine, to find people who also wanted to play something different,” Luca Aaron grins. The trio’s creative drive feeds on various influences. Some of them have inspired all members and others are more personal. To name the most important: post-rock, minimalism à la Steve Reich, Nordic melancholy and Scandinavian folk, as well as unusual tonal colors, created by extended playing techniques and well applied electronics.

Improvisation, composition:As a drummer I think of improvisation the moment I play a note,written out or not. The rehearsal/creation of my compositions was a two-stage process firstly,playing the music as written in the score like a traditional - orchestra would do, then detaching oneself from the score and working on a stepping back,on silence and the emergence of melodic lines like memories that suddenly surface.
