Thinking up new programmes is something I usually do on my own at my desk. But for this solo album I wanted to take up a new challenge to create a programme with my audience. I had the feeling that this would provide me with new insight. With just my violin as travelling companion, I set off through Europe for a series of solo recitals with a collection of pieces to try out.

Although Mozart is known primarily as a pianist, he was a violinist at the court of Salzburg until he walked out in 1781 to carry out an independent career in Vienna. These sonatas belong to two sets of six, one published in Paris in 1778, when Mozart first sought to leave Salzburg, the other in Vienna in 1781, right after he resigned. These pieces were meant to serve as a calling card, but Mozart went well beyond this sole intention.

Highly virtuoso dinners: London in the 1730s. Musical life was flourishing around the figure of Handel. The Saxon composer also served as director; at the height of his fame, he surrounded himself with the finest London musicians, and was joined by many foreign composers to occupy the long breaks between the acts of his oratorios. Their musical interludes accompanied lavish dinners, during which Mr Handel escaped from the pit to indulge his gourmet tendencies. Quite a programme!

Both the 'AsraelSymphony' and 'Fairy Tale', considered by many the summit of Suk's achievements, are new additions to the Decca and Universal catalogues.

In 2011, after the break, Yrjö award-winning saxophonist Manuel Dunkel released a new album on April 26th. Discoveries is the first Dunkel album with its own name since 2013, for example. The well-known Finnish musicians from UMO and numerous other top orchestras have brought together a great quartet: Alexi Tuomarila (piano), Eero Seppä (bass) and Jaska Lukkarinen (drums).

This latest solo collection from Grammy-winning guitarist Laurence Juber, blends the intricate detail of his fingerstyle guitar arrangements with jazz-inspired improvisation. Recorded in one afternoon session at Hollywood s storied Capitol Studios, the repertoire is drawn from the Great American Songbook , with the bonus of a new Juber original. Downtown is a fusion of styles from both sides of the Atlantic, such as the English Folk- Baroque of John Renbourn and the solo jazz virtuosity of Joe Pass, filtered through Juber s unique guitaristic sensibility. Says LJ I ve played hundreds of sessions as a studio musician at Capitol, and recorded a number of my albums in the historic recording location set below the landmark tower at Hollywood and Vine. This intensive 5 hour session was the most focused of them all, as zing went the strings through a batch of favorite standard songs, with the legendary Al Schmitt engineering.

Actually, there are four tones, but the individual timbres of bassist Phil Donkin, alto saxophonist Wanja Slavin, bass clarinetist Joris Roelofs and drummer Martin France merge with such force to a symbiotic unity that the word ensemble in the traditional sense with considerable blurring is afflicted.

The world’s smallest Big Band played their first show in February 2015 and has been touring ever since. So far they have been to The United States, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Rumania, Hungary, Slovakia, France and Austria.

No point in checking if Alfa Mist has read all of Roland Barthes, the guru of structuralism… Behind his keyboards, the Brit designed his album Structuralism with a more modest objective: “I have been affected by my environment. My upbringing has shaped me in a way where I do not know how to communicate. Structuralism is about, “I am who I am” because of the structure of society I grew up into. Now I need to learn how to communicate.” What Alfa Mist communicates very well with his second album is an innate sense of soft groove and a vital need for exchange. Yet another proof of the strength of today's British jazz scene, which flourishes in soul, funk and hip hop, the latter being the first chapter of the young musician's saga.

For this new recording, The Belcea Quartet has chosen 3 quartets by two iconic composers of the 20th century : Leos Janáček and György Ligeti. The first quartet was inspired by Leon Tolstoy’s famous novella, The Kreutzer Sonata. The secon quartet is subtitled Intimate Letters, in homage to Kamila Stösslova. And th first quartet by igeti, subtitled Métamorphoses nocturnes because of its particular form is described as a sort of theme and variations but not with a specific them.

Ólafsson’s second Deutsche Grammophon album, the pithily entitled Bach, contains a mixture of original works and transcriptions, which the pianist has woven together in intriguing style.
