Mike + The Mechanics was formed in the mid-80's by Genesis guitarist Mike Rutherford while Phil Collins was pursuing his (very) successful solo career. Joined by ex-Squeeze member Paul Carrack, Paul Young, Adrian Lee, and Peter Van Hooke, the band released 5 albums over the course of a ten-year span from 1985-1995. Filmed September 7, 2004 at Shepherd's Bush in London, Mike + The Mechanics take the stage with a mix of new recordings from their 2004 effort "Rewired" along with many of their classics from their original 1985-95 run, including the chart topper "The Living Years" and the top 10 hits "Silent Running" and "All I Need Is A Miracle". The lineup for this incarnation of the Mechanics is: Mike Rutherford, Paul Carrack, Peter Van Hooke, Gary Wallis, Jamie Moses, Rupert Cobb, Abbie Osmon, and Paul McGee.

Released August 2011. The latest album features 14 carefully crafted songs from the mysterious imagination of Mr Bill Nelson. Bill Nelson is both an enigma and a highly public person whose motivations sometimes seem shrouded in complex mysteries, yet whose at-times prodigious output amounts to public development of song ideas and musical experiments. He has been both a guitar hero and the background figure in any number of art installations, exhibitions, and theatrical presentations. While difficult for record company executives to grasp and often obscure to the general public, Nelson has nonetheless built up a strong and loyal fan base around the world.

Some months ago, the daily Greek newspaper "To Vima" gave away a collection of 20 CDs, called "Dimitri Mitropoulos - Retrospective". It is a compilation of recordings that Mitropoulos did for Columbia (now Sony). I think some of them are not in the Sony catalogue at the moment. Here is the first box, discs 1-5. Included are: Mozart's Don Giovanni (disc 1-3), Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony and Prokofiev's "Lieutenant Kije Suite" & Piano Concerto no.3, with Mitropoulos as soloist and conductor.

Shortly after Wes Montgomery's shockingly early death, Verve rummaged around in the vaults and came up with some additional tapes from the live Smokin' at the Half Note sessions with the Kind of Blue rhythm section, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb. And then after-the-fact producer Esmond Edwards did a controversial thing – he commissioned Claus Ogerman, the arranger on Tequila, to overdub wind and brass arrangements on four tracks: the title tune, "Portrait of Jennie," "Oh! You Crazy Moon," and "Misty." The critics promptly pounced on Verve, NARAS responded by giving the album a Grammy, and the whole issue became moot when subsequent reissues of the four tracks erased the new backing charts. Yet on the whole, Ogerman did a good job; his arrangements are subtle and, in the case of the title track, swinging, with the flutes adding effective responses within Montgomery's statements of the theme…
