The piano music of the American composer Phillip Ramey (b. 1939) is rooted in the motoric athleticism of Prokofiev and Bartók, seasoned with sober lyricism, spicy modernist dissonance and a fresh approach to the grand Romantic gesture. Covering a span of half a century, this third Toccata Classics album includes the vivacious early Suite, the sparkling Toccata Giocosa, the atmospheric Slavic Rhapsody, the parodistic Burlesque-Paraphrase on a Theme of Stephen Foster and the exotic Djebel Bani (A Saharan Meditation), concluding with the virtuosic, highly dramatic Sixth Sonata.

This was the first studio recording of flamenco guitarist Rafael Riqueni (Sevilla, 1962). It is a work that caused a sensation among guitarists of his generation so different and novel of his own compositions. Riqueni already made in this recording the imprint of his personality and the essential elements of his touch, showing an innovative order forms of the flamenco guitar. It is certainly one of the two best albums of flamenco guitar in the '80s, with 'Sirocco' by Paco de Lucía.

This instrumental group was founded by musician, composer and performer of marimba and vibraphone Julius Wechter (Chicago, 1935-99). The group had several changes in its members, but especially in the period from 1965 to 1971 Julius was accompanied by Ervan 'Bud' Coleman (guitar), Frank DeCaro (rhythm guitar), Dave Wells (trombone), Lee Katzman (trumpet), Bernie Fleischer (reeds), Mel Pollan (bass), Curry Tjader (percussion) and Frank DeVito (drums). Most of them were experienced musicians who had worked with famous names in jazz (Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, etc..). The Baja Marimba Band style offers a friendly light music with a sophisticated blend of bossa nova, jazz and pop.

London’s Savage Messiah returns with its fourth studio album, The Fateful Dark, which will be released in Europe March 10 and in the United States on March 18.The Fateful Dark was recorded at Grindstone Studios in Suffolk, England, with producer Scott Atkins. The album contains 10 tracks and three bonus tracks and is available via the Earache Records Web store and on iTunes. The artwork was created by Peter Sallai.

From its introduction of sci-fi narration and scowling wild cat, Italy’s Ancillotti are merely preparing us for their take on fist-clenching, chest pounding classic heavy metal delivered in the vein of Motörhead. Ancillotti are named after Strana Officina and Bud Tribe vocalist Daniele “Bud” Ancillotti (vocals), who is joined by his brother Sandro “Bid” Ancillotti (bass) and his son Brian Ancillotti (drums), along with Luciano “Ciano” Toscani (guitar).The Chain Goes On is the debut full-length opus from these metalheads who revel in the rather generic topic of rock ’n’ roll mayhem; the result being 11 half-decent, leather-clad minor metal anthems which like to speak of headbanging and how rock ’n’ roll isn’t dead.

Since Asturias mastermind Yoh Ohyama has been often called the Japanese Mike Oldfield, the similarities between his music and that of the English multi-instrumentalist will not come as too much of a surprise. However, it would be very unfair to tag Asturias as a clone band, as here we are mainly referring to similarities in the structuring of albums, and in the emphasis on instrumental compositions rather than conventional songs. "In Search of the Soul Trees" is a wholly instrumental effort, a suite divided in two parts, each comprising five sections. The concept on which it is based has with a definite 'new-age' flavour - a spiritual journey deeply rooted in nature, the titles of the various sections suggest…

Rare UK heavy psych hard rock with some progressive rock elements from the early 70s in the vein of Writing On The Wall or Leafhound, though not as outright brutal as those two, and with a nod to Mott The Hoople, Slade, etc. Formed from the ashes of 60s psych band Turquoise, this is classic UK early 70s rock.

Award-winning San Diego power rock band EARTHLESS has completed work on its brand new album From the Ages. The first new studio album from the globally celebrated trio since the release of 2007′s critically acclaimed Rhythms from a Cosmic Sky, the LP was recorded in San Francisco with producer Phil Manley (Trans Am, The Fucking Champs, SubArachnoid Space). An hour-long double LP, From the Ages will see an October 8 release date via Tee Pee Records.
