DarkHorse is the new vehicle for Canadian vocalist Paul Laine and his band. Its country driven, but the heart of the album’s songs remain melodic rock. "Let It Ride" is mature enough musically and someone can find that out by listening at least two or three songs at random. The compositions are simple, without much fanfare and are flowing gently in the ears of the listener. Laine shows once again what a gifted singer he is reminding the glamor of the past and takes the songs to a high level. He is flawless throughout and especially good on the ballads of the album and also the faster compositions as well. Similar artists: Bon Jovi, Keith Urban.

RED DAWN is the kind of band that comes along only once in a great while. Originally released in 1993, "Never Say Surrender" was the debut (and only) album from melodic rockers Red Dawn. Highly over-looked gem deserves a home in any comprehensive melodic hard rock collection. There's no words to describe this virtual supergroup of musicians gave us a superb combination of AOR and hard rock with powerful vocals, brilliant keyboards, big guitars and great songs with class hooks to back them up. The ECM debut of Ferenc Snétberger features the widely-acclaimed Hungarian guitarist in solo performance before a rapt audience at the Liszt Academy in Budapest . Snétberger’s richly improvisational eight-part suite - entitled “Budapest”- subtly draws upon influences from Brazilian music and flamenco, from jazz and classical tradition, as well as his own gypsy background. As an encore, he plays the Harold Arlen standard “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”. Further releases with Ferenc Snétberger are in preparation.

Why is this the first and only official live release by The Brecker Brothers Band, you ask? Perhaps surprisingly, it documents a group that rarely played live, much less toured extensively. This is due in part to a 1970 s music world with the constraints of a vital studio scene, wherein virtuoso musicians were kept busy tracking for television, movies, commercials, and all styles of solo spots and horn sections – regardless of musical style. We were making a living in the recording studios, recalls Brecker. The clubs paid next to nothing, as did ‘opening act’ gigs. Clive Davis was always begging us to go out on the road, but we weren’t going to blow the studio work.

A two-fer combining Big Star's first and second albums, #1 Record/Radio City remains a definitive document of early-'70s American power pop and a virtual blueprint for much of the finest alternative rock that came after it.
