Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the signing of Danish vocalist Ronnie Atkins to a solo deal. The acclaimed Pretty Maids and Nordic Union vocalist will release his new solo album, "One Shot," on March 12, 2021. Ronnie Atkins found himself with the time and urgency to write a solo album: the time because of a pandemic, the urgency because of a stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis. A fixture of the European metal scene as the frontman for Pretty Maids for nearly four decades, Atkins is known for lending his voice to powerful rock songs and that's exactly what he does on this solo album, One Shot. A bittersweet album due to the circumstances around it being created, it is a testament to its creator.

Hormis cette belle pochette, Diego Imbert s'imprègne aussi de ce qu'on a appelé la nouvelle modalité, l'autre avant-garde, l'autre new thing, le post-bop, ce qu'on ne savait pas trop comment appeler et qui se trouvait effectivement chez Blue Note. Un soupçon de Dolphy première époque, du Freddie Hubbard deuxième époque, quelques traces de Hancock époque du milieu… En fait, pour sortir du label, surtout le second quintet de Miles. Et c'est toujours une bonne idée, surtout à entendre le son cristallin du bugle d'Alexandre Tassel. Prince of darkness pour lui.

Contains lots of very catchy and easy-to-dance-to tracks, including an interesting remake of Deodato's classic "Also Spracht Zarathustra" as well as a good rendition of classics like "Aquelas Coisas Todas" and "Chove Chuva". Quality package compiled by Dingwalls stalwart DJ Patrick Forge.

If truth be told, the Allman Brothers Band have always been the quintessential American rock band, shaping a rootsy mix of blues, jazz, country, and rock into an elegant, nuanced sound that single-handedly created what became known as Southern rock. Full of beautiful dual guitar leads and driven by double drummers, and possessing a lead singer who, when he was on his game, had as much soul as anyone around, the Allman Brothers Band were also an improvisational band who found all kinds of new corners in their classic catalog when they played live, no matter what the configuration of the band was at the time.

Vibraphonist Cal Tjader's final album (he passed away four months later) found his band mostly accompanying singer Carmen McRae. The album was arranged by pianists Mark Levine and Marshall Otwell. McRae and Tjader did not get on well during the recording, and Tjader later overdubbed his parts without McRae present. McRae chose to sing “Besame Mucho” in its original Spanish language lyrics, and Willie Bobo helped her with the pronunciation.

If you haven't yet encountered the music of Edmund Rubbra, this superbly played and recorded set of his complete symphonies would be an appropriate place to start. Rubbra may hardly be a household word on these shores, but his reputation has been rising steadily in Britain–largely due to recording projects such as the one under review here. It is a mystery to me why these brilliantly crafted, inexhaustibly inventive, and eminently likeable symphonies have not won a wider following, though perhaps in our fast-paced culture music that requires the listener's total concentration (as does Rubbra's) is not destined to win instantaneous approval.
