In-demand Chicago bassist Ethan Philion — praised by bass legend Rufus Reid for his “wonderful internal pulse,” and by The Washington Post for his “well-honed chops and astounding musicality” — has long looked to Charles Mingus as a towering role model.

"SHIFT - Bad Hombre Vol.II" is the sequel to Antonio Sánchez's 2017 Grammy-nominated album "Bad Hombre." On his debut album with Warner Music, Sánchez now boasts a Who Is Who of collaborators.

Franz Liszt's (1811–1886) piano transcription of Beethoven's Sixth Symphony 'Pastoral' is in dialogue with Serynade and Marche fatale by Helmut Lachenmann. In this WDR production, Collot comes across as a contemporary painter and creates fascinating timbres and shades of these highly virtuoso masterpieces.

The heat of a different world throbs just behind the skin of this one; all around us, openings to it flicker. They vanish almost as soon as they've appeared. But they keep appearing, as if daring us to hold them open, to widen them until they turn into a way.

As the world continues to burn and crumble around us, I am in awe of watching people whom I know, old and new, create music and art that speaks of love, loss, giving, and grief. Across Water represents much more than a few compositions split between two of this generation’s greatest thinkers, but four big hugs from members of my own family.

"Sings Just One Look And Other Memorable Selections" is Doris Troy’s magnificent debut album. It includes her massive hit single “Just One Look”. “Just One Look” charted at #3 on Billboard’s Top R&B Singles and #10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Troy displays her masterful songwriting abilities and ravishing interpretive skills. The album also includes a breathtaking rendition of “Stormy Weather”.

"Uhuru" is one of two albums of "Harlem Bush Music" recorded in November of 1970 and January of 1971 by Gary Bartz NTU Troop. The title itself shows that soprano/alto Bartz and singer Andy Bey were moving toward a more expansive format to explore black consciousness within the realm of jazz. This righteously grooving mixture of jazz, funk, soul, and searching rhythms proves an essential and politically relevant entry in the canon of timeless jazz recordings.

The timing of Staff Sgt. Barry Sadler's number-one smash "The Ballad of the Green Berets" couldn't have been more impeccable. Released in early 1966, when anti-war sentiment was beginning to swell, "The Ballad of the Green Berets" tapped into an enormous wellspring of patriotic fervor among Americans who were tired of the dissent and ambiguity surrounding Vietnam. The Army ate him up, of course, and after several appearances on TV back home, Sadler joined the USO tour for awhile. He scored a minor hit with the follow-up single "The "A" Team," and went on to release two more albums, 1967's Back Home and 1968's The A Team (which, oddly enough, didn't contain that song). Sadler never duplicated its blockbuster success, and soon retired from music to become a successful author.

As a recipient of the Royal Academy of Music Bicentenary Scholarships scheme, British bass-baritone Ossian Huskinson explores the powerfully appealing archetype of the vagabond in its various iterations across English Song. Vaughan Williams’ Songs of Travel forms an ideal starting point, containing the complete cycle of a hero’s journey: the adventure, the highs and lows, and the return home as a changed person. Inspired by the same vagabond theme, a younger generation has perpetuated the tradition; Ossian interprets songs by Farrar, Warlock and Head.In 2022, four exceptional recipients of the Academy’s 2020/21 Bicentenary Scholarships scheme – Julie Park, Camilla Harris, Ossian Huskinson and Charlie Lovell-Jones – will each release a new album to coincide with the Royal Academy of Music Bicentenary celebrations.

At any given time, you're likely to find Jim Lauderdale making music, whether he's laying down a new track in the studio or working through a spontaneous melody at his home in Nashville. And if he's not actively crafting new music, he's certainly thinking about it. "It's a constant challenge to try to keep making better and better records, write better and better songs. I still always feel like I'm a developing artist," he says.

Out Front is a 1961 album by American jazz trumpeter Booker Little featuring performances recorded and released by the Candid label.

The one thing all but one of the works on this recording have in common is that they were used in a motion picture, though only six of the eleven songs were written for a specific movie.
