    Following two critically acclaimed organ group outings, New York saxophonist-composer Dan Pratt heads in a different direction on Hymn for the Happy Man, his fourth recording overall and debut for his own Same Island Music imprint. “After eight years, the organ group had a great run, and I found myself looking for something new to do,” explains the California native and longtime Brooklyn resident. “So for this record I decided to go with the piano-bass-drums-sax quartet instrumentation, which is so foundational to jazz. It was one of those things that was staring me straight in the face and I couldn’t see it, but on reflection it was such clear choice. I’d never recorded a quartet record, and to go in the direction I wanted to go, I felt I needed to explore an instrumentation that is such an essential strand to jazz’s DNA.”

    On the ninth season of The Voice, one contestant stood out from the start and eventually won it all. Jordan Smith of Harlan, Kentucky, auditioned with his take on Sia's "Chandelier," which resulted in standing ovations from all four judges. His wide vocal range helped him on notable covers of Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain," Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," and Beyoncé's "Halo." A cover of Selah's "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" helped him top the Christian charts in late 2015. In December 2015, he beat Blake Shelton's Emily Ann Roberts to claim the top spot. A compilation of songs Smith sang on the show was released at the end of the month. Smith's debut LP, Something Beautiful, was released in spring 2016 and peaked at number two on the Billboard 200.

    Many Italian music fans only know CAPSICUM RED by name because their singer and guitarist Bruno "Red" Canzian had a very successful career (until now!) with pop band POOH, and this four-piece from TREVISO didn't catch so much interest in their short career. Formed in 1970 the band released their first single "Ocean" in 1971 on Bla Bla label, and promoted as a British band the single was a hit! A second one, "Tarzan", came soon after, both contained commercial songs very far from the album sound. Both singles were lately included in the rare Tarzan label sampler.
