    With a few more albums to play with than 2004's Songbook - a straightforward collection of the singles to date - the two discs of Zoom! take a few more liberties with the history of Super Furry Animals. All the singles are present and correct, but it's the strays which are the most rewarding. 1999's stunning slice of psych rock, "Citizen's Band", is finally released in a format which doesn't involve numbing your index finger on the rewind button when your copy of "Guerrilla" is in the player, while once-unheralded b-sides like "Patience" and fan-favourite deep cuts "Receptacle for the Respectable" and "Run! Christian, Run!" (both from 2001's maximalist masterpiece Rings Around the World) are finally getting a wider due.

    Country Hymn is the band’s third and most cohesive album, complementing the stylistic variety of We Can Do Anything (2015) and the novelty humor of Power to My Friends (2010). It was recorded, mixed, and produced by John Miller (Secret Stash Records) and mastered by Bruce Templeton (Microphonic Mastering). The recording’s twelve tracks include the dark, old-timey opening ballad, “Betty on the Road” (track 1), the jaded academic’s honkytonk waltz “Old Country” (track 3), a Tom Petty-esque rocker about aging called “Fading Flower” (track 4), a touching country/folk number with a string arrangement, “Staying Around” (track 5), and the powerful Tom Waits-like title track that was composed in a dream (track 11). The album also includes two covers: Bob Dylan’s “Odds and Ends” (track 2), sacrilegiously including an original bridge (!), and a wild cowpunk rendition of the Sweet’s “Blockbuster!” (track 12) as a bonus track. Start the album at the beginning and play it straight through you won’t regret it.

    Steve Real is a singer/songwriter as well as a renowned vocal coach in Los Angeles.     Germany's esteemed WDR Big Band alongside guest musicians, including the dynamic Moroccan/Senegalese drummer Mokhtar Samba and his son Reda Samba on percussion. During August 2015 the WDR Big Band performed an impressive concert of large ensemble jazz crossed with African timbres and rhythms, at the Cologne Philharmonic. The guests also included Rhani Krija on percussion, Henry Dorina, electric bass, Woz Kaly, vocals and Jean-Philippe Rykiel, keyboard. The pieces were arranged and conducted by Michael Mossmann. The music is presented by Mokhtar Samba: it is about vibrant rhythms and hypnotising melodies. As Samba feels very close to the music of his ancestors, his pieces are naturally heavily influenced by the elementary power of African rhythms.
