    Quatuor Mosaïques is among the leading original instrument or authentic performance string quartets. Its members were all part of the Concentus Musicus Wien, the pioneer original instruments group associated with Nikolaus Harnoncourt. In 1983 Christoph Coin, the cellist and viola da gamba player of the Concentus Musicus, founded Ensemble Mosaïques, a smaller group, inviting a number of his colleagues from Concentus Musicus to join. In 1985, four members of Ensemble Mosaïques formed the Quatuor Mosaïques, one of the first string quartets devoted to use of period instruments and authentic performance practices.

    This lost gem was originally issued as a 12” LP in 1957 by the Aladdin subsidiary label Score, and long unavailable on any format. In addition to the original masterpiece, this remastered collector’s edition contains 15 bonus tracks, consisting of hard-to-find sides issued by different labels, such as Aladdin, Ace, and King Records during the Fifties and early Sixties. Highlights include two of Brown’s seasonal-themed blues songs; the celebrated “Merry Christmas Baby” and “Please Come Home for Christmas.” These sensational recordings constitute a treasure of incalculable value, which would form the basis of Charles Brown’s legend and secure his reputation as one of the greatest figures of piano blues.

    Despite the enormous levels of success achieved in the 1970s, by early in the new decade, Meat Loaf s career had taken an unexpected downturn. Bat Out Of Hell had been met with unprecedented acclaim upon its release in 1977, with its epic, theatrical style proving hugely popular, causing it to sell some 45 million copies worldwide. The album went 14 x Platinum in the US, and has never left the Top 75 UK Album Chart. His 1981 follow up, Dead Ringer, was also a hit, reaching the top spot in the UK, and with its title track and lead single - a duet with Cher - scoring highly too. Things were brought to a sudden halt, however, after the tour in support of Dead Ringer was cancelled after just one show, due to a lack of further funds.

Brooklyn is a pretty mainstream quartet outing, full of enjoyable compositions that Horellou has penned himself, and seven originals plus Tadd Damerons If You Could See Me Now makes up a solid set for the 70 minutes duration.

    This is a great collection of The 5th Dimension on 3 CDs. It would have easily fit on 2 CDs but I guess it was a marketing scheme to make people think they were getting more for their money. Nonetheless, it is still a great collection and features some tracks you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else. The fans of this group will not want to miss this one.
