    WEB FLAC (tracks) - 175 MB | Tracks: 10 | 29:39 min
Style: Soul, Funk, R&B | Label: Colemine Records

Barbara Howard's On The Rise is more than just another rare soul LP. It's a love story. It's a dream. It was an attempt to break through. And although Barbara certainly never became a star, one song did become a staple in rare soul and funk DJ sets, keeping interest in Barbara Howard just under the surface. And as fate would have it in 2016, a sealed copy of the LP would find it's way into Plaid Room Records in Loveland, OH and kick start the revival of her story and her music. In 1968, as an outgrowth of a community movement and talent search program called "Operation Step-Up", Steven Reece wanted to take his community movement to the next level. This is when the idea of founding an independent label came to mind.

A stunning album of looped Frippertronics and electronics, in the vein of the classic Fripp & Eno No Pussyfooting collaboration. Recorded live from a past life. Awash in the hypnotic looping structures of Robert Fripp's guitar soundscapes, Jeffrey Fayman adds an opulent cinematic brilliance to the proceedings, creating an intense and dramatic vision of a future rich in the heritage of Fripp's past. Nine years in the making, A Temple In The Clouds is a unique collaboration between one of rock's most important and influential guitarists and a contemporary cinematic composer. Fripp's contribution of two hours worth of treated guitar work (his trademark "Frippertronics") formed the basis for Fayman's layering of interwoven electronic soundscapes.

Two delightfully different cultures. Lili Boulanger echoes Debussy with her bubbly, impressionistic D'un Matin de Printemps. Jacques Ibert's Deux Interludes pay homage to the French Baroque and to Spanish Flamenco. In his Trio of 1961, Jean-Michel Damase takes us on a kaleidoscopic tour through different aspects of French culture and creates a piece of great poignancy.

Between 1995 and 2004, Detroit saxophonist James Carter released several conceptual discs: a salute to Django Reinhardt (Chasin' the Gypsy), electric-era Miles Davis (Layin' in the Cut), jazz ballads (Real Quiet Storm), and a lush Billie Holiday tribute (Gardenias for Lady Day). With the release of each disc, the unavoidable question remained: would Carter ever put out another straight-ahead session in the vein of his early-'90s recordings JC on the Set and Jurassic Classics? Happily, Live at Baker's Keyboard Lounge makes up for lost time. Carter and an amazing array of musicians took flight for three nights in June 2001 at Baker's in Detroit, featuring guest appearances by David Murray and Johnny Griffin alongside fellow Motor City natives Franz Jackson, Kenny Cox, Dwight Adams, Larry Smith, and Gerard Gibbs.

Kushkia does not resemble any piano trio in Korea. It's a unique title that puts a variety of timbres and heterogeneous themes into an unexpected composition, but if you try to understand it mathematically, it's a trap that Kushikia has struck. Kushikia pursues 'action' rather than emotion. Instead of pouring out intricate but intuitive motifs and trying to contain a lot of things, they suddenly throw their answers to a clear one (like a hook-shot) with a grim look. If you take that provocative action (rebound), you will notice the charm of Kushikia.

Unknown Italian sacred and instrumental music of the 18th century from Naples: The Abchordis Ensemble interprets the Lectio VIII Defunctorum (for soprano, two violins and basso continuo) by Gennaro Manna (1715-1779), and the symphony by Aniello Santangelo (18th century) in F (for two violins, viola and basso continuo) and the Stabat Mater (for four voices, with violins, violetta and basso continuo) by Giacomo Sellitto (1701-1763). An equally melodious and virtuoso music, sometimes attractively chromatically charged. Musical examples of the incredible cultural diversity in Naples in the 18th century. The Abchordis Ensemble was founded in 2011 by ten musicians of various nationalities, with the aim of rediscovering and bringing to light today unpublished or under-performed music. The vocal and instrumental ensemble dedicated themselves above all to church music in 17th and 18th century Italy.
