    Bach and Gabrielli: the focus of this recording is an unusual musical match involving the famous 6 Suites for violoncello solo by Johann Sebastian Bach and the little-known 7 Ricercari for violoncello solo (1689) by Domenico Gabrielli of Bologna, the first example of a work for unaccompanied cello in history, and thus the only precedent and possible model for the Bach masterpiece. In what ways are the two series of compositions linked? Cellist Mauro Valli is convinced that there is a connection between the two for a number of reasons, including the preponderant correspondence of the keys.

    If you take a closer look at the Portuguese music scene of 2018, it is precisely artists from the former African colonies who have been enormously enriching the country's musical and poetic spectrum for some years now. Angolan Aline Frazão is one of them. Mythical images of the rain, sometimes dance-like, sometimes ballad-like memories of Angola's landscapes, a chanson that mutates into a bossa, a transatlantic cello and images of nature made with Cape Verdean strings: these are just some of the ingredients for her forth work Dentro Da Chuva, on which the singer / Songwriter draws wonderfully dazzling soundtracks on the Atlantic Ocean.     Sabbagh and Tuohey have put a band together. Joe Martin, one of today's great bassists and an alumnus of Sabbagh's quartet, was an obvious choice. Drummer Kush Abadey impressed when he came to a session at Sabbagh's house; his commitment, versatility and musicianship cemented his position in the quartet. The two leaders knew they wanted to record an album of original pieces. Following the success of The Turn in the audiophile community, they also aimed to release the best sounding record possible (No Filter will be available in audiophile vinyl, as well as high resolution download). Recording direct to analog tape, all in the same room, without edits or overdubs, required some preparedness. Following a tour last fall, the band knew the material and veteran engineer Farber mixed on the fly. This urgency and directness are very much representative of the band's esthetics. The goal was to capture the moment and produce an album in which there is as little barrier as possible between the artists and listeners.

    “Meadow Creek” is a duo (and also Mr and Mrs) Linda and Peter Dahl from Degerfors. Linda is a singer and songwriter who got her first record deal at the age of 17 when she was the leadsinger in the band “Angel”.     This album spawned "Let It Whip," and contains a mixture of "Whip"-ish tracks and slow, tantalizing ballads. "Keep It Live" and "Whip" both feature throbbing basslines and spirited vocals. "Whip" is an unusual dance tune in that the song was successful but the dance never caught on. Lead Skip Martin displays his romantic skills on the shuffling "Gamble with My Love" and "Let Me Love You Until." Despite the big hit, this is not the Dazz Band's best overall. Dazz was experiencing growing pains – they wanted to produce themselves totally, but had to defer and follow Motown's suggestions on what the finished product should sound like.

    "The Lace" is the only solo album by Cars' bassist and member Benjamin Orr. It was released on October 6, 1986 by Elektra Records and features his only solo hit, the song "Stay the Night" which reached the Top 40 in 1987. A follow-up single "Too Hot to Stop" was also released but failed to chart. Wounded Bird Records re-released the album on CD on August 15, 2006.

    Markus Burger: "Since I was a child, I have loved the outdoors and fell in love with the vast wilderness of Alaska and Iceland. In 2000 I visited Iceland for the first time and wrote most of the songs for my solo piano release Ultreya, which came out in 2001 on Jazzline Records. It took me until 2002 to go to Alaska and visit Valdez and the Kenai Peninsula. I was blown away by the beauty of Alaska and the uniqueness of the folks that live there. Through my affiliation with Idyllwild’s Jazz Academy director Marshall Hawkins, one of the finest bassists on the Westcoast and a great Jazz Educator, I was fortunate enough to start teaching for a few summers in Homer, Alaska.

    When EMI agreed to record Martha Argerich's appearances at the Lugano Chamber Music Festival, no doubt part of the contract included a clause stipulating it could release her two piano recordings separately. It only makes sense. While her dedicated fans might be avidly interested in everything the Argentinean pianist does, less ardent listeners may be more tempted by a set that focuses directly on Argerich rather than including all manner of chamber music.
