Valentin's second recording combines funk, latin, jazz and pop elements into an appealing lyrical style, with a distinctive percussive bounce. The Beatles "Blackbird" and the standard "What A Wonderful World" are standout tracks.

Play Yard Blues is the latest solo album by John Norum, the guitarist in the Swedish hard rock band Europe. It was released on 17 May 2010. The album includes cover versions of the Thin Lizzy song "It's Only Money", the Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush song "Ditch Queen" and the Mountain song "Travellin' in the Dark". John Norum is a Norwegian/Swedish rock guitarist and one of the founders of the Swedish rock band, Europe. Concurrent to his role with Europe, he also maintains a successful side solo career. During his career in music, Norum has played with Eddie Meduza & the Roaring Cadillacs, Dokken, Don Dokken's solo band, as well as collaborations with other well-known artists in his solo albums, including Glenn Hughes, Kelly Keeling, Peter Baltes, Simon Wright and Göran Edman. His influences include the likes of Gary Moore and Michael Schenker.

Following on from the previously released Volume One and Two, Marvin Gaye Volume Three: 1971-1981 is a collection of his last seven Motown studio albums on 180g vinyl in one fantastic box. Commonly referred to as the ‘Prince of Soul’, Marvin Gaye helped to shape the sound of Motown Records and was one of the greatest voices to emerge from the label.

Portrait is predominantly a series of encounters between Ritenour and several guest interlopers, presumably to provide a well-rounded stylistic composite. On some level, saxophonist, composer, and arranger David Binney's Graylen Epicenter is a restless extension of the three previous recordings he's issued on his Mythology imprint. That said, it is also his most relentlessly ambitious, with his largest cast ever. Vocalist Gretchen Parlato appears on most of these cuts as another instrument in Binney's tonal and harmonic arsenal, as she sings wordlessly a great deal here. Binney's alto and soprano is also assisted by bassist Eivind Opsvik, guitarist Wayne Krantz, pianist Craig Taborn, percussionist Kenny Wollesen, drummer Brain Blade. Trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire and tenor saxophonist Chris Potter lend considerably to the diverse, intoxicating meld of textures and atmospheres found here.

The mastery and vision of the enduring Marc Ribot shine through on this release. Although there have been many attempts to produce authentic indigenous music of various cultures, most have fallen short; this album succeeds in the wake of failure. Ribot delves deep into Cuban rhythms, and indeed the album is a tribute to the Cuban master Arsenio Rodriguez. Here Ribot finds an authentic Cuban sound employing traditional instrumentation: upright bass, wood blocks, cherke, and other percussion sounds. The performance is inspired, and the band consistently tears through Rodriguez's material, as well as some of their own. Ribot's guitar work nears perfection, and he proves himself to be the most soulful white alive. Songs like "Aqui Como Alla" and "Postizo" confirm these assertions.

Raul De Souza is one of the mysteries of the jazz world. In the 1970s, it was obvious that the Brazilian trombonist had a lot going for him: a distinctive and appealing tone, major chops, versatility, and a lot of soul and warmth. Produced by George Duke, 1977's Sweet Lucy is the first of three albums that De Souza recorded for Capitol in the late '70s. Vocal-oriented funk jams like "Wires" and the title song (both written by Duke) are catchy, but the fusion and pop-jazz instrumentals are where De Souza really shines.

Shadoks reissues this Norwegian heavy rock album from Finjarn & Jensen, originally released in 1970 only in Norway (on the Columbia imprint via EMI Norsk A/S). Guitarist, vocalist, composer and artist Svein Finjarn can be safely called a legend in American rock. He began playing guitar and acting before he was 10 years old, and in the fall of 1961, he became the first Norwegian to play in a rock band with a fender Stratocaster. In 1969 he helped put together super-heavy rock group Jumbo with Freddy Lindquist, Leif Jensen, and Tore Syvertsen. The group released two singles, but dissolved during the work on their first LP. Finjarn and Jensen made the album complete with Lindquist, Arild Krosby, Arne Kvikstad and Grete Christoffersen, with enthusiastic liner notes written by Yngvar Holm…

Pierre Génisson and Quartet 212 resurrect the arresting delicacy of Mozart’s clarinet quintet in this quietly authoritative album. Génisson nails the composer’s tender lyricism with an airy nonchalance that gives the impression he has pondered every note and cadence. Quartet 212 offer a formidable balance to Génisson’s solos.
